Unter Trainer Pep Guardiola (54) bringt der 34-Jährige immer noch Top-Leistung. Sein Vertrag verlängerte sich aufgrund seiner vielen Einsätze zuletzt automatisch bis 2026. Diese Saison absolvierte er 47 Pflichtspiele für Manchester City (34-mal in der Startelf).
„Ich habe nun noch ein Jahr länger Vertrag und bin darüber glücklich. Nicht nur, weil ich im fortgeschrittenen Alter bin, wo jedes Jahr mehr Vertragslaufzeit schön ist. Sondern, weil ich unfassbar gerne bei City bin“, sagte der Ex-Nationalspieler gegenüber SPORT BILD.
[–>Auf die Frage, ob er auf jeden Fall weiter Fußball spielen und nicht direkt Co-Trainer von Pep Guardiola werden wolle, antwortete der Mittelfeld-Star: „Ehrlich gesagt, will ich noch mehrere Jahre Fußball spielen: Weil ich mich absolut bereit dafür fühle, sehr fit bin, auf meinen Körper achte. Ich spüre, dass mir Fußball extrem viel Spaß macht: nicht nur ein weiteres Jahr, sondern mindestens zwei Jahre, vielleicht sogar drei oder vier Jahre.“
Aber: Gündogan denkt laut eigener Aussage auch darüber nach, „was danach kommt“. Er: „Vor diesen Gedanken habe ich aber keine Angst, eher eine gewisse Vorfreude. Aber noch macht mein Körper mit, und Pep sagt nicht zu mir: ,Hey, du fällst vom Leistungsniveau ab …‘

Gündogan: „Co-Trainer von Pep wäre extrem reizvoll“
Nach einer Zusammenarbeit habe Gündogan seinen Coach Pep Guardiola nicht gefragt. Aber: „Etwas Besseres als einen Einstieg als Assistent von Pep gibt es wahrscheinlich nicht: Das haben die Beispiele in den letzten Jahren gezeigt, das kann den Weg für eine Trainerkarriere ebnen. Co-Trainer von Pep zu sein wäre extrem reizvoll für mich.“
[–>Einen ersten Schritt in die Richtung hat der 34-Jährige bereits getan – mit einem Trainerschein. „Ich habe die B-Lizenz. Meine letzte Info war, dass man, wenn man die A-Lizenz anfangen möchte, schon irgendwo – als Assistent oder im Jugendbereich – als Trainer tätig sein muss. Das geht aktuell also noch nicht.“
