FLOURTOWN, Pa. — With all due respect to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the PGA Tour’s lone team event, the Truist Championship was Rory McIlroy’s first real test of golf since winning the Masters.

The five-time major winner tied for seventh at 10 under par at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, six shots off Sepp Straka’s winning score.

McIlroy said entering the week that he was “excited to get back to being a golfer” and figure out where his game is at entering the second major of the year, the PGA Championship. Consider that task complete.

“I think I’m in a good place,” the Northern Irishman said Sunday. “I didn’t feel like I played all that well this week, I still finished seventh. Even my — what I feel is my bad golf, I’m still there or thereabouts.

“A couple little improvements and little tweaks, especially going to a place I love like Quail Hollow, and I feel like I’m in a really good spot.”

McIlroy shot in red figures all week, capped by Sunday’s 2-under 68 with 16 pars and two birdies. He did not make a bogey or worse over his final 28 holes of the tournament, but thought he missed several chances to climb the leaderboard.

“Overall I felt like I got a little better as the week went on, played good,” McIlroy said. “As you said, bogey-free. I wish I’d made a few more birdies. I’ve got a better gauge of where my game is standing here right now than I did at the start of the week. It was a good week for that.

“I wish I had gotten myself into contention a little bit more, but it was a good week, especially looking ahead to next week.”

McIlroy birdied the first hole Sunday but had to scramble for pars the rest of the front nine, mainly due to wayward drives. He hit only five fairways in regulation out of 14, following a surprising 3-for-14 performance on Saturday.

McIlroy theorized that wide-open fairways at the club’s Wissahickon Course may have actually thrown him off.

“I sort of struggled with this in Houston as well, whenever we get these big, wide-open golf courses where there’s not a ton of definition,” he said. “I think I would have hit more fairways if it had been tree lined. I felt like I drove it a little better on the back nine today, which was good.”

He won’t have to worry about course fit at the PGA Championship. Quail Hollow Club usually hosts the Truist Championship (formerly called the Wells Fargo Championship). McIlroy has won at Quail Hollow four times, including last year.

His fans were out in full force weeks after his historic Masters win. McIlroy was the most popular player on the property all week, and children screamed for his autograph as he concluded his media duties.

“They’re very enthusiastic,” McIlroy said of the Philadelphia fans. “They’re loud. They’re relentless in terms of like … I must have heard my name a million times this week.”

Fantasy football rankings 2025: Breakouts, sleepers, busts from model that nailed C.J. Stroud’s down year

Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was the top scoring wide receiver, running back or tight end in CBS Sports PPR leagues last season, and the NFL's wide receiving triple crown winner was only outscored by five quarterbacks in Fantasy football. That's evidence that a dominant wide receiver can be worth his weight in gold, and the latest Fantasy football ADP shows Chase going off at No. 1 overall in many 2025 Fantasy football drafts. However, going wide receiver in the first round does present a few problems, as running backs are typically more injury-prone, and identifying quality depth options will be a necessity if you're not getting a workhorse early.Who are some of the 2025 Fantasy football sleepers and breakouts that you need to be aware of before you go on the clock, and who are the 2025 Fantasy football […]

Eagles’ famous ‘Tush Push’ lasts another season: Why changes could be coming to league’s controversial play

NEW YORK -- There isn't a play as close to automatic when the Philadelphia Eagles run the "Tush Push." The Eagles have nearly perfected the controversial play. converting the play into a first down 91.3% of the time on third-and-1 and fourth-and-1 situations since 2022 (including playoffs). The play defines the Eagles, in a sense. This isn't why the Eagles are 39-12 over the last three seasons, but the "Tush Push" is the play many teams -- and fans -- identify the defending Super Bowl. This is the play the league is trying to get rid of, and have failed to this point. "I just don't think it's a good looking play," said The NFL Today studio analyst and Super Bowl champion coach Bill Cowher. "I just don't think there's anything strategic about it."The league tried to eliminate the "Tush Push" over the […]

Predicting the five worst teams in NFL for 2025: Browns, Saints poised for bad years with dire QB situations

As another NFL season is set to begin, 32 teams will chase the dreams of winning the Super Bowl. Every team has an opportunity to win it all come Week 1, and a fast start can certainly alter the course of a season. Even though all 32 teams have a chance at a Super Bowl title -- and the parity of the NFL is stronger than ever -- reality has to be faced with some franchises in 2025. There are some teams that just aren't going to win a championship this season. Whether the quarterback situation isn't good, the coach is dealt with factors beyond his control, mismanagement of the front office, or the roster being bad, there's always a multitude of factors why some franchises are going to be bad every season. This holds true for 2025, as there are certain […]

Fantasy Football: Nathan Jahnke’s favorite 2025 picks

George Kittle is an all-time great: Kittle has both the best receiving grade and best run blocking grade among tight ends over the course of his career. Kellen Moore’s offense could benefit Chris Olave: Moore’s offense has put an emphasis on slot receivers, which translates to fantasy points. Olave could be the primary slot receiver for the New Orleans Saints this season. It’s officially “my guy” season at PFF — time to plant flags on the players we believe in more than consensus. For this list, I stuck to the players I’ve been most excited to land during fantasy drafts this year. Average draft positions are based on a consensus from ESPN, Sleeper and Yahoo!, reflecting where each player is typically selected in a 12-team redraft league.
