Olympic gold medalist and wrestling icon Kyle Snyder is facing legal trouble following an undercover operation by Columbus police last week.
The 29-year-old athlete, considered one of the most successful American wrestlers of his generation, was arrested and charged for allegedly attempting to solicit prostitution on the city’s North Side.

According to authorities, Snyder responded to an online ad for escort services posted by law enforcement as part of a sting operation conducted on Friday, May 9.

He was one of 16 men apprehended in connection with the operation, which aimed to target individuals seeking to engage in illegal sex work.
Police say Snyder contacted the undercover officers via phone and text, arranging a meeting at a hotel later that evening.
Upon arrival, he allegedly paid an officer in cash and requested oral sex before being taken into custody.
Snyder was released from the scene and is scheduled to appear in court on May 19.
Attempts by media outlets to reach him for comment have been unsuccessful.
Snyder’s arrest comes as a surprising turn in the career of an athlete widely celebrated for his accomplishments on the mat.
He rose to prominence after winning gold in freestyle wrestling at the 2016 Rio Olympics and followed up with a bronze medal performance at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
At the most recent 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, he placed fourth.
A standout collegiate wrestler at Ohio State University from 2015 to 2018, Snyder captured three consecutive Big Ten and NCAA titles and helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2015.
Earlier this year, he was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Snyder’s resume also includes three world titles, three Pan American Games gold medals, and multiple victories at the Pan American Championships.
Following the Paris Olympics, he had expressed his intention to continue competing at the international level.
More recently, Snyder had signed on to join the new Real American Freestyle wrestling promotion, a project co-founded by wrestling legends Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, marking a new chapter in his career, one now overshadowed by this latest development.
