A NFL confirmou as expectativas da torcida e anunciou na noite desta quarta-feira que o Kansas City Chiefs será o adversário do Los Angeles Chargers no jogo a ser realizado no Brasil na próxima temporada. A Neo Química Arena, em São Paulo, receberá no dia 5 de setembro mais uma partida da principal liga de futebol americano do mundo, que virá à América do Sul pelo segundo ano consecutivo.
Em 2024, o estádio do Corinthians também foi palco da vitória do Philadelphia Eagles sobre o Green Bay Packers, por 34 a 29, na primeira visita da liga ao Brasil. Assim como acontecerá neste ano, a partida foi válida pela 1ª rodada da temporada. No último Super Bowl, os Eagles se sagraram campeões ao bater os próprios Chiefs.
Desta vez, a equipe do quarterback Patrick Mahomes, o tight end Travis Kelce, o treinador Andy Reid e companhia desafiarão os Chargers, anunciados em fevereiro como mandantes do chamado “NFL São Paulo Game”. Os Chiefs são os grandes fenômenos da última década da liga, campeões em 2020, 2023 e 2024 — o outro título da franquia foi conquistado em 1970.
Já os Chargers, do quarterback Justin Herbert, ainda perseguem o primeiro título na história. A partida da primeira rodada é um “clássico” da divisão Oeste da Conferência Americana (AFC). Estes tipos de encontros valem ainda mais na classificação, ao final das 18 semanas do calendário.
As divisões contam com quatro times e os rivais sempre se enfrentam duas vezes em um ano, o que costuma levar as equipes a não abrirem mão de atuarem em seus estádios para vencer adversários diretos.

O anúncio da ida dos Chiefs a São Paulo foi feito pela NFL junto da revelação do calendário completo da temporada. O rumor da vinda dos multicampeões — e atuais vices — surgiu no início de abril. Conforme o GLOBO havia apurado, fazia algumas semanas que a tendência vinha sendo alimentada, e a direção da franquia nunca se opôs.
Os torcedores já podem se cadastrar para receber informações sobre ingressos do “NFL São Paulo Gam 2025” através do site nfl.com/saopaulo. O início das vendas acontecerá em data ainda a ser anunciada pela liga.
O jogo no Brasil será apenas o primeiro do calendário de jogos internacionais — fora dos Estados Unidos — da temporada 2025 da NFL. Ao todo, serão sete em cinco países: Inglaterra (três), Irlanda, Alemanha e Espanha também serão sedes.
