„Tvrdě jsem bojoval. Byl jsem trpělivý a taky trefil několik pěkných ran, což se mi v předchozích dnech moc nedařilo,“ řekl Scheffler, který bude ve čtvrtém kole usilovat o třetí vítězství na majoru. „Mám velkou šanci vyhrát. Ale budu muset předvést další skvělé kolo,“ dodal osmadvacetiletý Američan.
Norén si ve třetím kole polepšil o patnáct míst a má na dosah nejlepší umístění na majorech, kterým dosud je šestá příčka na British Open v roce 2017. PGA Championship je jeho teprve druhým startem po sedmiměsíční pauze zaviněné zraněním stehenního svalu.
O třetí příčku se dělí se ztrátou čtyř úderů Američané Davis Riley a J. T. Poston. Za nimi na páté příčce jsou o další ránu zpět Španěl Jon Rahm, Korejec Kim Si-u a Jhonattan Vegas z Venezuely, který byl v čele turnaje po prvním a druhém kole.
Rahm si polepšil o 22 míst a nerozhodilo ho ani to, že na jedenácté jamce zasáhl jednoho z diváků do hlavy. Fanoušek vyvázl bez zranění a jako bolestné dostal podepsaný míček. „Byl naprosto skvělý a vzal to velmi sportovně,“ uvedl Rahm.
„Vtipkovali jsme, že kdyby byl z Evropy a uměl hrát fotbal, tak mi mohl míček přihlavičkovat blíž jamce,“ přidal vítěz dvou majorů. „Když se tohle stane a nikdo se nezraní, bývají fanoušci dost často nadšení. Protože ví, že se u nich zastavíme a pět minut s nimi pokecáme,“ dodal.
