Dallas will open the season on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl champions, marking an intense and immediate start. This is followed by a string of games on unusual days, including four Thursday games throughout the year.
The final stretch of the season will be especially tough. In a span of five weeks, the Cowboys will play three Thursday night games, including the Thanksgiving showdown against Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs and a tough matchup against the Detroit Lions. The finale comes at Christmas against Washington, at a time of year when injuries and fatigue often take their toll.
Physical risks and key decisions
Fitness management will be one of the keys to Schottenheimer’s success in his first year. Although Dallas already has experience playing on Thursdays, the frequency and demands of these games will require significant adjustments to the team’s weekly planning. It’s not just about tactical preparation, but about taking the utmost care of key players to maintain competitiveness through December.
The team’s recent history with injuries forces the coaching staff to act with caution. Losing key players such as Dak Prescott or CeeDee Lamb at critical stages could be fatal to postseason aspirations.
