The Texas A&M football community is in mourning following the tragic and unexpected death of Brian Williams, a former safety for the Aggies and one of the top football recruits in the nation from the 2019 class.
Williams, just 24 years old, died after suffering a severe heat stroke during a half marathon, according to confirmation from his family. The heartbreaking news was first shared by his older brother Rawleigh Williams III, who posted an emotional tribute on Instagram.
“B you are my heart. The BEST version of us in every single way B. I don’t think I can make it without you but I’m going to try for our parents and our sister. I love you brother,” Rawleigh wrote.
The death was later confirmed by Jaxson Callaway of Aggies Today, who posted, “It sounds as though former Texas A&M safety Brian Williams has passed away unexpectedly.”

Brian Williams was a five-star prospect who made headlines early in his football career. A standout at Bishop Dunne Catholic School in Dallas, Williams was named SportsDayHS Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and widely regarded as the top safety in the country coming out of high school.
He chose Texas A&M over a host of elite programs and joined head coach Jimbo Fisher‘s team in 2019. Though injuries and roster competition limited his playing time, Williams made 19 appearances between 2019 and 2021. Those who knew him best praised his football IQ, physicality, and unselfish approach to the game.
Teammates and coaches often described Williams as someone who brought more than talent-he brought leadership, focus, and respect to the locker room. Former Aggie defensive back Leon O’Neal Jr. posted on X, “Rest easy brother B Will,” reflecting the sense of loss shared by many within the program.
A legacy of leadership beyond the football field
While Brian Williams made his mark on the gridiron, he was equally committed to his education and personal development. At Texas A&M, he majored in engineering and had a known passion for mathematics.
He was often found mentoring younger teammates, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence and life beyond football.
Friends and peers remember him as a quiet but powerful force-someone who led by example and treated others with kindness and respect. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or in the community, Williams consistently demonstrated the type of character that inspired those around him.
