Sometimes life can put million-dollar objects in front of you and you don’t even know it, as happened to a 10-year-old boy. The youngster found a coin that turned out to be more valuable than a chest full of treasures and his family took advantage of it by selling it for $800,000.
While spending time with his grandfather, a 10-year-old boy came across a Lincoln penny that was worth a fortune. He found it while going through an old jar of coins, having in front of him a penny different from the rest: dark tone, heavy and unlike the others. His grandfather, who was passionate about coin collecting, knew what he had in front of him.

The coin was a 1943 Lincoln bronze penny. In the middle of World War II, pennies were made of zinc-coated steel because of a shortage of copper. However, some bronze blanks were accidentally left in the presses in 1942, so this coin was never minted, making it unique and valuable today, as is the case with the one the boy found. There are only 20 examples of these coins in the world, which drives up their value, and some coins sell for nearly a million dollars in perfect condition.

The family asked for an expert to look at it and once this version was corroborated, they sold it for $800,000 to a buyer, which allowed them to pay off the family’s mortgage, secure their children’s education and be financially profitable. This went viral within days across the country. The boy’s grandfather who found the coin spoke about it: “We were lucky to be in the right place at the right time.”
