Die Bilder zeigen ihn u. a. mit dem DFB-Pokal im Mannschaftsbus und bei der spontanen Meisterfeier im April 2024. Emotion pur. Er schreibt dazu: „Lived it. Loved it. Forever Bayer 04 Leverkusen.“ „Er habe es gelebt, er habe es geliebt. Für immer Bayer 04 Leverkusen.“
Alonso, der zu Real Madrid geht, hinterlässt die größtmögliche Lücke. Auch deshalb kämpfen die Bosse Simon Rolfes (43) und Fernando Carro (60) um den perfekten Nachfolger. Der ist aus ihrer Sicht Cesc Fàbregas (38), Trainer von Como 1907 in Italien.

Die Situation von Fàbregas ist mit der von Alonso in Leverkusen zu vergleichen, bevor der seinen Abschied verkündet hat. Der Trainer entscheidet über seine Zukunft, auch wenn der Klub ihn halten will und einen gültigen Vertrag (bis 2028) in Händen hält. Dass Fàbregas am vergangenen Wochenende zurückgerudert ist, ohne ein Bekenntnis zu Como abzugeben, gilt als versöhnliches Zeichen an seine Bosse.
Nur: Dass Leverkusen weiter auf ihn wartet – und seine eigene Frist für eine Entscheidung bis Ende Mai verlängert hat – belegt vor allem: Der Glaube daran, Fàbregas gewinnen zu können, ist ungebrochen. Der Welt- und Europameister hat zu keinem Zeitpunkt eine Absage auch nur angedeutet. Hinzu kommt, dass er der einzige Konsens-Kandidat aller Verantwortlichen bei Bayer ist. Ausstrahlung, Ansprache, Spielstil, Anspruch – Fàbregas überzeugte in Leverkusen auf ganzer Linie.
