After much anticipation and negotiation, Brock Purdy has officially secured his future with San Francisco. The 49ers quarterback signed a five-year, $265 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2030 season.
With this deal, Purdy becomes one of the highest-paid players in the NFL – ranked fifth in total contract value and eighth in annual salary at $53 million.

But despite entering a new financial bracket, Purdy’s post-signing plans are far from extravagant. Instead of indulging in luxury cars or sprawling estates, the quarterback has his eyes set on something far simpler and more sentimental: a bass fishing boat.
“For the most part, I’m pretty sure we’re just going to keep it simple,” Purdy said during an interview with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“I was talking about maybe buying a bass fishing boat down the road. That’s something I’ve always wanted since I was a kid, so you might see us fishing more often.”

Purdy isn’t the only star the 49ers locked down this offseason. Tight end George Kittle also signed a major extension, agreeing to a four-year, $76.4 million deal. Together, the deals reflect general manager John Lynch’s commitment to the current roster-even after the controversial decision to trade wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
The 2024 season was a rough ride for the Niners, who ended with a disappointing 6-11 record. Injuries to key offensive weapons, including Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, played a significant role in the team’s struggles. McCaffrey has reportedly recovered from a PCL injury, while Aiyuk is still working his way back from a torn ACL. If both players can return to full strength, San Francisco could quickly become a threat in the NFC again.
Still, much of the responsibility will fall on Purdy’s shoulders. After throwing for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2023, he saw a noticeable dip in production last season.
Critics have questioned whether Purdy can carry the offense without his top-tier supporting cast. Now, with a massive contract under his belt, the expectation is that he must.
What began as an improbable NFL journey-from the last pick in the 2022 draft to franchise quarterback-has turned into a high-stakes chapter for Purdy. No longer the underdog, he is now expected to perform like one of the league’s elite.
But if his calm demeanor and grounded attitude are any indication, Purdy isn’t letting the pressure get to him. He’s focused on the future, both professionally and personally-whether it’s driving the 49ers back into playoff contention or spending quiet time on the lake with a fishing rod in hand.
