Laura Ester Ramos vive estos días una auténtica montaña rusa emocional. Tras más de dos décadas en el waterpolo y después de haberlo ganado todo con la selección (oro olímpico en París 2024, oro mundial en Barcelona 2013 y tres oros europeos en Budapest 2014, Budapest 2020 y Split 2022), acaba de poner fin a su carrera también a nivel de clubes. Lo hizo la semana pasada en el partido que enfrentó a su Club Esportiu Mediterrani, en el que empezó y ha terminado, contra el Club Natació Catalunya.

“De momento estoy bien, hace sólo una semana que lo he dejado, no me ha dado tiempo todavía a pensarlo, es como si estuviese de vacaciones. Cuando pasen las semanas e incluso los meses quizá salgan los sentimientos”, reconoce.

La mejor portera española de waterpolo de toda la historia recibirá el 7 de junio, durante La Noche del Deporte, un premio con el que MARCA quiere reconocer su excelsa trayectoria pero también poner en valor su papel como una de las impulsoras y propulsoras del éxito del deporte femenino en España. “Es un premio especial y estoy muy agradecida de recibir el reconocimiento de MARCA, pero también significa que ahora sí que sí se acaba mi carrera, es el fin de una etapa”, dice con una sonrisa.

Una etapa que comenzó cuando tenía 11 años en el Club Mediterrani. Entonces no sabía ni lo que era el waterpolo, pero la convencieron para probarlo y fue amor a primera vista. “Desde ese mismo día quise volver porque me lo había pasado muy bien, lo disfruté. Y desde ese día siempre estuve en la portería, nunca me quise cambiar”, confiesa.

El ‘Pajarito’ dorado

Fue el entrenador del primer equipo quien la bautizó comoPajarito “porque tenía las piernas muy delgaditas y volaba en la portería”, recuerda. Y una vez que alzó el vuelo fue imparable. Su debut con la selección absoluta fue en el Europeo de 2008 celebrado en Málaga. España ganó la plata, la primera medalla de su historia. Tenía 18 años y era la segunda portera. “Fue increíble vivirlo en casa y pensé: ‘Cuidado, que podemos hacer cosas muy grandes”, recuerda.

Tan grandes como, cuatro años después, ganar la primera medalla olímpica del waterpolo femenino (plata en Londres 2012) en unos Juegos en los que de las 17 medallas españolas, 11 tuvieron sello femenino. Fue el punto de inflexión. Después llegarían la plata de Tokio 2020 y el broche de oro en París 2024. También cinco medallas mundiales y 6 europeas. 

A nivel de clubes, entre el Mediterrani y Sabadell ganó 7 Champions, 13 Ligas, 11 Copas de la Reina, 11 Supercopas de España, 4 Supercopas de Europa y 12 Copas de Catalunya. El Pajarito dice adiós convertido en leyenda.
