Überraschend kommt das nicht mehr …
Horst Steffen wird beim SV Werder Nachfolger von Cheftrainer Ole Werner. Er hat einen Vertrag bis 2028 unterschrieben. Elversberg kassiert 300.000 Euro Ablöse.
Manager Clemens Fritz (44): „Horst hat uns in den Gesprächen inhaltlich wie menschlich absolut überzeugt. Er hat in den letzten sieben Jahren in Elversberg herausragende Arbeit geleistet. Horst steht für offensiven, attraktiven Fußball und eine sehr gute und klare Mannschaftsführung. Wir sind überzeugt, mit ihm gut gerüstet in die neue Saison zu gehen.“

Steffen war Werders Nr.-1-Kandidat, nachdem Werner nach dreieinhalb erfolgreichen Jahren seinen Vertrag (lief bis 2026) nicht verlängern wollte und daraufhin freigestellt wurde. Am Mittwoch gab Steffen dann seine Zusage.

Der neue Mann an Werders Seitenlinie schwärmt in einer Klub-Mitteilung vom Miteinander: „Es wurde nicht von Zielen geredet, sondern es ging um eine Haltung im Miteinander. Das passt zu dem, was ich gerne machen möchte. Wenn die Haltung stimmt, kommen wir zu den Inhalten. Das Miteinander so in den Vordergrund zu stellen, habe ich noch nicht erlebt. Das ist für mich ganz wichtig.“
[–>Am Montag war er mit Elversberg noch in der Relegation gegen Heidenheim dramatisch am Aufstieg zur Bundesliga gescheitert. Jetzt steigt er selbst in die Bundesliga auf.
Steffen: „Bremen verfügt über eine gute Mannschaft, die Potenzial hat und sich in den letzten drei Jahren in der Bundesliga sehr gut entwickelt hat. Diese Entwicklung möchte ich gerne zusammen mit den Spielern fortsetzen. Ich freue mich sehr auf diese Herausforderung.“
Sie beginnt am 5. Juli mit der ersten Trainingseinheit am Weserstadion.
