Gage Goldberg Says Colorado Team ‘Shocked’ Over Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Slide

Shedeur Sanders wrapped up his college football career with a strong final season at Colorado. The former Buffaloes quarterback threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while completing an NCAA-best 74.0% of his passes. He also added four rushing touchdowns. His efforts earned him All-American honors and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He also took home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders-the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders-was projected to be one of the first two quarterbacks off the board alongside Washington State’s Cam Ward. Ward went No. 1 overall. But Sanders suffered one of the most unexpected slides in recent memory. He fell to Day 3 and was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round.

Buffalo Bills legend Bill Goldberg and his son, Gage-who played with Sanders at Colorado-recently shared their thoughts on the slide.

What Colorado linebacker Gage Goldberg said?

Fans weren’t the only ones stunned by Shedeur Sanders‘ monumental draft slide — his former college teammates were also flabbergasted … including Colorado Buffaloes linebacker Gage Goldberg.

Sanders and Goldberg were teammates with the Buffaloes for one season in 2024. Goldberg opted to go to Colorado after initially committing to Alabama as a preferred walk-on.

As a redshirt freshman, Goldberg appeared in three games. His debut was in Colorado‘s 34-7 win over Arizona. He finished the year with one tackle on just 11 defensive snaps played.

Even though Goldberg‘s exposure to Sanders was limited to just their one year, he saw the best version of him. The 23-year-old threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and completed 74.0 percent of his attempts.

What was the reaction of the WWE Legend?

TMZ asked the 19-year-old LB — son of WWE legend Goldberg — for his thoughts as he watched Sanders, who was projected to go as high as third overall, fall to the middle of the 5th round, where the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 144th pick.

We were all shocked, the whole team was,” Gage told us.

And, it’s not just Gage who has a connection with Shedeur. Goldberg goes way back with the QB’s dad, Deion Sanders … as they were teammates in the ’90s with the Falcons.

Shedeur has talent on top of talent,” Bill said.

Sometimes people read into things that shouldn’t be read into it, and it is what it is. It’s gonna turn out to be a success story no matter what.

Gage piggybacked off pops’ statement, saying the hate Shedeur and his brother, Shilo, have gotten will be used as motivation to kick ass on the gridiron.
