Tras 25 años de ‘alternativa’, Sergio Lobera repasa en MARCA una carrera exitosa en los banquillos, a la que aún le quedan muchos capítulos por ‘escribir’. El descubridor de Busquets (entre otros) ha tenido la fortuna de ser parte del éxito de jugadores como Messi, Piqué o Jordi Alba, a los que entrenó durante sus ocho años en La Masia. El fútbol le abrió las puertas del mundo y Lobera decidió aprovecharlo. Marruecos, China e India en la actualidad (donde ha lo ganado todo) han sido los destinos de un Sergio que no se cierra ninguna puerta de cara al futuro, del que desea seguir disfrutando como hasta ahora.
PREGUNTA: ¿Cómo fueron los inicios de Lobera en esto del fútbol?
RESPUESTA: Me recuerdo desde muy pequeño con un balón en los pies, siempre ha sido mi pasión y me considero un privilegiado de poder tener hoy en día y durante 25 años de carrera mi hobby como mi trabajo. Mis inicios fueron desde abajo y he podido llegar a ser primer entrenador, pero también he estado como director deportivo, como jefe del departamento de scouting en el Barça…
P. Uno de sus grandes fichajes en esa época del Barça fue Sergio Busquets, ¿cómo se fraguó?
R. Firmé a Busquets cuando yo era entrenador del Juvenil B del Barça. Él estaba en el Jabac. Venía del Lleida, su padre acababa su carrera deportiva y me pidió un club donde le pudiera ayudar para poder seguir creciendo. Le aconsejé ir al Jabac, lo fui siguiendo y en ese momento que me ofrecieron a mí llevar el Juvenil B y lo quise incorporar. Mi abuelo iba a ver a Messi y decía que ese es el mejor. Si mi abuelo iba a ver a Sergio Busquets, no decía que ese era el mejor. Pero tú como entrenador sabes lo que necesitas. Ese equilibrio que te puede dar, yo lo vi como un seis evolucionado en el fútbol en ese momento.
Messi debutó con el Barça y al día siguiente me lo llevé a cenar. Tuvo que salir por la cocina del restaurante. Le veías la cara y decías, es la primera vez que él está percibiendo que esto es algo más que fútbol.
P. Hay más nombres muy importnates: Thiago Alcántara, Oriol Romeu, Tello…
R. A Thiago lo fui a ver a Galicia muy pequeñito, con 12 años. Vi que era un jugador que podía destacar y lo incorporamos en ese momento, igual que a Oriol Romeu. A jugadores como Tello o Cuenca en ese momento ya estaban jugando en el Espanyol y ya los firmamos de un equipo que era más grande y ahí sí que ya podías ver ya el contexto competitivo y lo que te podían dar.
P. Pero si hay un nombre destacado de los muchos que usted entrenó es Leo Messi, ¿cómo era el argentino?
R. Recuerdo perfectamente el primer día que llegó Leo y salió al campo para hacer un entrenamiento. Cuando lo ves necesitas 10 minutos para decir, esto no es normal. Es un jugador que te coge el balón y que te marca la diferencia. Era muy pequeño comparado con los demás, pero era diferente.
P. Además tuviste la posibilidad de vivir su ‘boom’ en primera persona, ¿cómo fue?
R. Hubo un momento que fue muy anecdótico, incluso para él. Debutó con el Barça y al día siguiente me lo llevé a cenar a un club, el Jabac, porque ya estaba planificado así y no sabíamos que iba a debutar en ese día. Tuvo que salir por la cocina del restaurante. Fue un impacto brutal y ahí le veías la cara y decías, es la primera vez que él está percibiendo que esto es algo más que fútbol. Hay cosas que te cambian inmediatamente la vida.
Hay momentos donde un jugador por un simple cambio de posición puede cambiar su vida y Jordi Alba es uno de estos casos
P. También pudiste disfrutar de Jordi Alba, aunque su caso fue diferente. ¿Qué cambió en él?
R. Jordi Alba lo pasó mal porque realmente no salió como Piqué. Lo de Gerard fue una elección suya, a Jordi Alba prácticamente lo descartaron del Barça. Decían que no podía seguir jugando porque no reunía las condiciones ni el nivel. Era pequeño en ese momento y yo recuerdo utilizarlo de lateral izquierdo cuando él era media punta. Hay momentos donde un jugador por un simple cambio de posición puede cambiar su vida y Jordi Alba es uno de estos casos.
P. ¿Cuáles crees que son las principales diferencias entre La Masia y la cantera del Real Madrid?
R. Considero que el Barcelona tiene una idea y un estilo de juego muy marcado desde hace muchos años. Entonces, el perfil de futbolista que formas es muy claro. En el Real Madrid se firman muy buenos jugadores y todo tiene sus ventajas y desventajas. Un jugador que sale de la cantera del Madrid está más preparado para jugar en otros equipos, en cambio el que sale de la cantera del Barça le cuesta más jugar fuera pero están muy preparados para debutar con el primer equipo.

P. Usted puso fin a su aventura en el Barça y tras varias aventuras llegó a Las Palmas, ¿cómo fue?
R. Me dieron una oportunidad de llegar a Las Palmas y siempre estaré agradecido. No empecé bien y siempre estuvieron detrás y creyeron en mí. Con trabajo conseguimos la promoción de ascenso y nos eliminó el Almería en la prórroga. En el segundo año estábamos en promoción de ascenso directo, perdimos un partido a falta de 3 jornadas en casa y salimos de promoción de ascenso directo. Ahí el club tomó la decisión de una destitución… fue impactante. Yo respeté la decisión y la relación es muy buena a día de hoy.
P. Y después, comenzó a recorrer el mundo, ¿cómo arranca esta experiencia en Marruecos?
R. Marruecos es un país pasional que vive el fútbol. Sales a la calle como entrenador y todo el mundo te conoce. Tuve la suerte de jugar unas Champions de África y llegar a las fases finales. Fue impactante ver los campos, me acuerdo de llegar a los campos y decirle a mi staff que nos habíamos equivocado de hora porque no podía ser que estemos entrando al estadio y ya estuviera lleno. Los jugadores tienen muy buenas condiciones y disfruté mucho de esa etapa.
P. Posteriormente China, ¿cómo fue?
R. China es diferente y los jugadores necesitan mucho más de automatismo. Necesitan saber mucho más en función de cada situación. Las soluciones las tienes que proponer tú como entrenador y hay más automatismos y mucha menos libertad.
P. Actualmente está en la India, ¿cómo es el fútbol allí?
R. India es un país que está en pleno crecimiento futbolístico. Los jugadores necesitan confianza y hay que trabajar más en ese ámbito psicológico y emocional. Ahí es donde los puedes ayudar para que ellos den el máximo más que machacarlos en conceptos tácticos. Tienen que sentirse con la confianza suficiente de que tú estás detrás en el fallo.

P. Después de todas estas aventuras, ¿qué valoración le merecen?
R. Uno reflexiona sobre las decisiones que ha tomado y trata de hacer una valoración objetiva. Esto me he ratificado a mí mismo de que la decisión que tomé era correcta. Todas estas experiencias me han ayudado a crecer como entrenador. Ha sido muy reconfortante participar en el proceso de ayudar los equipos, de conseguir éxitos y de ayudar al propio fútbol en los países en los que he estado.
P. También ha tenido la suerte de poder coincidir con grandes nombres del mundo del fútbol, ¿cómo es Pep Guardiola?
R. Sí, es un enfermo del fútbol. Ferran Soriano me decía que Pep veía nuestros partidos cuando yo entrenaba al Mumbai City. De hecho, después me mandaba algún mensaje, lo comentábamos… Esto te demuestra al nivel que puede estar una persona en cuanto a inquietudes. Cuando tú llegas al nivel que él está, yo pienso que no te queda tiempo para ver un partido de un equipo de India. pero Guardiola lo encuentra.
P. Y el futuro de Lobera, ¿dónde está?
R. Yo no estoy pensando en lo que pasará de aquí a dos años. Vivo el día a día. Tengo mi maleta preparada para intentar elegir el mejor proyecto, aunque eso signifique salir de mi zona de confort. Obviamente, como en España es difícil vivir, pero yo trabajo en esto y disfruto con esto. No estoy muy obsesionado con lo que vendrá, estoy más obsesionado con disfrutar lo que estoy viviendo en el presente.
