Mazembe, Al-Hilal e mais: seis grandes zebras que fizeram história no Mundial de Clubes

O super Mundial de Clubes tem início no próximo dia 14, em uma edição que promete ser histórica. Agora, o torneio contará com 32 clubes, tendo fase de grupos e mata-mata, sendo disputado a cada quatro anos. A ideia da Fifa é fazer um torneio de clubes que se assemelha à Copa do Mundo de seleções.

Em 2025, teremos a primeira edição do novo formato de um torneio que já existe há anos. Houve também, ao longo da história, outros torneios que podem ser considerados Mundial, mas não recebiam esse nome. Nos anos 50, por exemplo, tivemos duas edições da Copa Rio, vencidas por Palmeiras e Fluminense. Na época, era um torneio que reuniu clubes do mundo todo, mas sem a organização da Fifa.

Depois, entre 1960 e 2004, era disputado a Copa Intercontinental, que posteriormente passou a ser chamada de Copa Toyota, disputado anualmente entre o campeão da Libertadores e da Champions League, em jogo único, também sem a organização da entidade. Mas, popularmente, sempre foi chamado de Mundial de Clubes aqui no Brasil, embora nunca teve times do mundo todo.

As maiores zebras do Mundial de Clubes

Em 2000, a Fifa organiza de fato a primeira edição do Mundial de Clubes como teste, vencida pelo Corinthians. Depois, ela passa a organizar anualmente a partir de 2005, contando com times de todos os continentes, mas em um formato bem mais simples do atual, com europeus e sul-americanos entrando direto na semifinal. Porém, com a inclusão de times de menor expressão, foi possível ver algumas zebras na competição.

Necaxa (2000)

Uma das maiores surpresas aconteceu em 2000, quando o modesto Necaxa, do México, fez frente à dois grandes europeus. Na primeira edição organizada pela Fifa, o clube caiu no grupo do Manchester United, então atual campeão da Champions League, e empatou em 1 a 1. Com o resultado, o clube mexicano terminou na frente do europeu, podendo disputar o terceiro lugar diante do gigante Real Madrid. Contra os espanhóis, também conseguiu um empate no tempo normal, saindo vencedor nos pênaltis.

Internacional x Mazembe (2010)

A segunda grande zebra envolveu um clube brasileiro. O Internacional venceu a Libertadores de 2010 e foi disputar a semifinal do Mundial de Clubes contra o modesto Mazembe, do Congo. De forma surpreendente, a zebra apareceu e o Colorado perdeu por 2 a 0. Na época, o time brasileiro era amplo favorito, tendo jogadores como D’Alessandro, Tinga, Oscar, Leandro Damião e Rafael Sóbis.

Atlético-MG x Raja Casablanca (2013)

Três anos depois, o torneio voltou a ter uma zebra, novamente com um time brasileiro. O Atlético-MG venceu a Libertadores pela primeira vez em 2013 e jogou a semifinal do Mundial contra o Raja Casablanca, do Marrocos. Então, o time de Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Tardelli e Jô, acabou sendo surpreendido e perdeu para os marroquinos por 3 a 1.

River Plate x Al Ain (2018)

Em 2018 tivemos novamente uma grande zebra na Copa do Mundo de Clubes, mas sem brasileiro envolvido. O gigante River Plate, que venceu a Libertadores, contava com nomes como Julián Alvarez, Nacho Fernández, De La Cruz, Borré e Pratto. Então, perdeu para o modesto Al Ain, dos Emirados Árabes, na semifinal da competição.

Palmeiras x Tigres e Al-Ahly (2020)

A edição de 2020 tinha o Palmeiras representando a América do Sul, mas acabou não tendo o sucesso esperado. O time de Abel Ferreira perdeu na semifinal para o Tiges, do México e, na disputa de terceiro lugar, foi derrotado pelo o Al-Ahly, do Egito, nos pênaltis. O Verdão, que foi para o torneio com bastante expectativa, saiu da competição sem marcar nenhum gol.

Flamengo x Al-Hilal (2022)

Por fim, na edição do Mundial de Clubes de 2022, o Flamengo acabou derrotado na semifinal para o Al-Hilal, da Arábia Saudita, por 3 a 2. O clube árabe, que era comandado por Ramón Díaz, até tinha um bom time, mas havia uma expectativa muito grande no elenco estrelado do Flamengo. O famoso “Real Madrid, pode esperar”, puxado por Marcos Braz às vésperas da comeptição, potencializa ainda mais para este duelo ser considerado uma zebra.
