Eunate Astralaga fue la gran novedad de la convocatoria de España para el doble compromiso ante Portugal que tendrá lugar en Paços de Ferreira y Vigo los próximos 4 y 8 de abril. La guardameta del Eibar, campeona del mundo Sub’17 y de Europa Sub’19, destaca por sus condiciones físicas -186 centímetros de altura-, su personalidad y su margen de mejora.
Eunate es la menor de los hermanos Astralaga Aranguren (Íñigo y Ander) con los que dio sus primeras patadas a un balón en el salón de casa. Los piques pasaron del coliseo familiar al parque del barrio, al frontón de Berango, al equipo de la escuela y al Bizkerre, donde llegó con 8 años. “Yo empecé como jugadora de campo, pero como en el equipo en el que estaba no teníamos portera y yo era la más alta, me tocaba ponerme”, recordaba la protagonista en RadioMARCA. “Luego tengo a mi hermano [Ander, 20 meses mayor que ella], que ya estaba en el Athletic (ahora está en el filial del Barcelona). De un día para otro tomé la decisión… y creo que fue la correcta”, añadió. “Nos ayudamos bastante y nos damos consejos. Somos bastante frikis del fútbol”, confesó quien tuvo como referente a Ainhoa Tirapu.

En 2017, con 11 años, aterrizó en Lezama para jugar en un infantil del Athletic Club que ya contaba con entrenador de porteras. En sus siete temporadas como leona pasó por las manos de Jon Gaizka Alzugaray, Orkatz Martín y Manex Sagarna. “Es una portera con un golpeo de balón espectacular, que aún debe aprender a controlar para sacar una mayor ventaja; una envergadura como pocas, que le hace anticiparse a muchas jugadas a pesar de no ser especialmente explosiva bajo palos; y una cabeza muy bien amueblada”, analiza en MARCA Orkatz, actualmente trabajando en la Sub’19 femenina. “Es una chica 10. A la hora de trabajar es una esponja, muy buena compañera y siempre con ganas de mejorar. Fuera del campo tiene las cosas muy claras, tiene los pies en el suelo y no tiene prisa por quemar etapas”, resuelve.

A pesar de aparentar ser una chica tímida e incluso introvertida, desde dentro del vestuario nos pintan a una Eunate totalmente diferente. “Es muy competitiva, pero siempre desde el buen rollo, la broma y el compañerismo”, descubre Paula Esteban, hoy guardameta del Sporting de Huelva y que compartió con Astralaga varias temporadas en el Athletic Club. “Éramos ‘el punto y la i’ porque me saca tres cabezas”, bromea. “Desde que apareció por Lezama se le notaban hechuras y planta de porteraza. Con su envergadura llega a balones imposibles y a pesar de todo lo que mide es ágil y rápida. Además, tiene un desplazamiento en largo que ya lo quisieran muchos porteros”, añade.

Eunate renovó el verano pasado con el Athletic Club hasta junio de 2027 antes de marcharse cedida al Eibar en busca de minutos en la élite. “Estoy disfrutando mucho de la experiencia y del día a día en el Eibar. Es un club de gente muy cercana y la primera vez que salgo de casa. Es un reto muy bonito para mí”, confesó la protagonista. Aunque comenzó la temporada como suplente de María Miralles y Noelia García, una expulsión de la primera le dio la oportunidad de debutar en la élite el 28 de septiembre de 2024 ante el Levante (derrota por 0-3). En diez partidos disputados hasta la fecha ha conseguido cuatro porterías a cero, tiene un porcentaje de paradas del 68% y es la jugadora con la mayor media de saques de portería (52 metros) y el mejor porcentaje de atajadas tras centros al área (12.8%). “Creo que me quedan muchas cosas por mejorar en muchos aspectos, pero si tuviera que destacar uno te diría que el mano a mano”, apuntó.

La berangotarra pasó por las filas de la selección española Sub’17 (2 internacionalidades), con la que fue campeona del mundo en 2022; de la Sub’19 (6 internacionalidades), con la que fue campeona de Europa en 2024; y de la Sub’20 (4 internacionalidades), con la que llegó a cuartos de final en el último Mundial el pasado mes de septiembre. “Estoy muy feliz de mi paso por la selección. Tengo los pies en el suelo y aprendizajes en la mochila que creo que me han seguir mejor portera”, aseguró Astralaga, que esta semana disfrutará de su primera convocatoria con la selección absoluta. “Lleva con nosotros desde los 16 años y valoramos el rendimiento que ha dado. Sentimos que tiene un talento natural para la demarcación que ocupa“, resuelve la seleccionadora Montse Tomé.

La llamada de la absoluta pilló de sorpresa a la jugadora y a su entorno, que lo ven como un punto de inflexión. “Es un hito para ella, el premio al trabajo realizado durante mucho tiempo, y es algo que ya no le va a quitar nadie”, comenta Guillermo Sánchez, representante de Eunate (GPlusB Group). “Es una chica joven, muy humilde, con los pies en el suelo y que se deja aconsejar tanto por su familia como por la agencia. Esta convocatoria, sin duda, la pone en el escaparate”, asegura Guillermo, que apunta que en las últimas horas han sido varios los clubes nacionales e internacionales que ya han preguntado por la situación de la guardameta. “Intentaremos ayudarla y apoyarla en lo que pueda necesitar, como hasta ahora, pero sobre todo queremos que disfrute de la experiencia y demuestre sus cualidades que son muchas”, sentencia.
