Bill Belichick is preparing for a new chapter in his coaching career as he takes over the University of North Carolina football program.
With six Super Bowl titles under his belt from his legendary tenure in the NFL, Belichick‘s move to the college ranks has sparked enormous curiosity.
But instead of just focusing on how one of the greatest football minds will adjust to NCAA play, much of the off-season chatter has centered around his personal life – specifically, the role of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
Hudson, a former cheerleader and now Belichick‘s partner, has been spotted accompanying the coach on various occasions.
However, despite public speculation, Belichick made it clear this week that she holds no role – official or otherwise – within the Tar Heels football program.
Belichick clears the air on Hudson’s role
“No, she doesn’t have any role in the UNC football program,” Belichick said, as quoted by On3. “There’s been noise out there about a lot different things.
“Again, our focus is day-to-day getting better, stacking good days together, having good rest and recovery, training, moving forward the next day.”
Belichick emphasized that all football-related decisions are made by him and his staff, whose sole objective is improving the team each day. His stance was firm: Jordon Hudson is not involved in any coaching or operational aspects.
“From the coaching staff, to focus on how do we help our team get better? That’s my job,” he added. “That’s our staff’s job – to put a good plan in place so that if they do the work, they see improvement. So that’s what our job is.”
The Hall of Fame-caliber coach, who spent over two decades leading the New England Patriots, acknowledged that Hudson assists him in a personal capacity – handling public appearances and managing communication for off-the-field matters.
“Well, nothing with North Carolina, that would be No. 1,” Belichick said during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast. “It would be personal opportunities, could be a speaking thing.
“It could be an appearance on this, or talk about that, or somebody wants, whatever it happens to be, autographs or that type of thing.”
Hudson helps with logistics, not football
Belichick further elaborated on how Hudson assists behind the scenes. After receiving multiple appearance requests related to his new position, he asked the university to include her in those communications.
“She’ll kind of help organize that for me,” he explained. “And one of the first things that came out was when North Carolina sent me emails saying, ‘these people want to talk to these people and talk to these people want to talk, these people want to talk to, I sent back in the email: ‘Can you please copy Jordon on these requests?'”
While the couple’s relationship has drawn public interest due to their age difference, Belichick appears keen to keep personal matters separate from the business of football.
As the Tar Heels prepare for the 2025 season under his leadership, Belichick is focused on building a winning culture and navigating the complexities of the college game.
With his signature focus and discipline, Belichick is determined to redirect attention from off-field distractions to the work ahead.
For now, Jordon Hudson’s role remains limited to helping the coach manage his personal brand – not the North Carolina playbook.
