Heading into a new NFL season, teams are looking to revamp their strategies to avoid repeating the same mistakes made in the past. And the Kansas City Chiefs are no exception.
After a painful 40-22 Super Bowl loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs decided to make some significant changes to their roster that could reflect their approach to the upcoming season.

In the final week of OTAs and in the lead-up to the mandatory minicamp on June 17, head coach Andy Reid and Kansas City have decided to make way for a new tight end by shedding one of their players.
A former Philadelphia Eagles comes to Kansas City?
As reported by Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 News, defensive tackle Siaki Ika has been let go by the team. The 24-year-old started at Baylor and was drafted in 2023 in the third round by Cleveland Browns with the 98th pick. He was released in October 2024, spent a few weeks with the Eagles and eventually joined the Chiefs in mid-December of last year, but never appeared in a game with the Chiefs.
Kansas isn’t sitting on its hands empty, however. In a move that hints at the team’s focus, using the vacant roster spot left by Ika, the Chiefs have signed tight end and former Philadelphia Eagles teammate Jalen Hurts, Kevin Foelsch.
The TE was not a draft pick like Ika, but joined Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. After a stint with the New York Jets, he shared a team with Hurts starting in August of last year, though he didn’t get to make much of an impact on his game as he mostly worked out with the practice squad. He was released permanently at the end of December last year.
His arrival could provide needed depth and is somewhat logical considering the team must compensate for the absence of Jared Wiley after recovering from knee surgery and the also injured Tre Watson.
While Travis Kelce and Noah Gray are the safest tight ends on Kansas City’s roster, Foelsch’s arrival will spark competition for depth behind them.
Thus, presenting Foelsch with a great opportunity to prove himself and earn a spot on the Chiefs. Will we see the birth of a new star?
