Fantastická show pokračuje. Po čtyřech utkáních už je jisté, že sledujeme jedno z nejlepších a nejzajímavějších finále v novodobých dějinách NHL. V noci na pátek byl rozepsán zase úplně jiný scénář než v předchozích třech dějstvích.
Po debaklu 1:6 Oilers slibovali návrat k defenzivním kořenům, ovšem v první třetině v Amerant Bank Areně se jim situace úplně vymkla zpod kontroly. Matthew Tkachuk využil dvě přesilovky a Anton Lundell 42 sekund před úvodní sirénou překonal edmontonského Stuarta Skinnera potřetí.
Kouč Oilers Kris Knoblauch po třetím zápase zvažoval, že nepříliš jistého Skinnera nahradí Calvinem Pickardem, a po první dvacetiminutovce už nebylo na co čekat. S novým maskovaným mužem mezi tyčemi začal Edmonton domácí náskok krájet.
„S takovými hráči, jako jsou Connor McDavid a Draisaitl se určitě vzpamatují. Když máte takové lídry, je to nebezpečná kombinace,“ varoval floridský útočník Brad Marchand.
Vykřičníkem pro domácí obranu byly už průniky Jeffa Skinnera a Evana Boucharda. Střelou pod horní tyčku ale v přesilovce snižoval až Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Najednou to byli Oilers, kdo po mdlém vstupu do zápasu úplně ovládli led. Ranou z úhlu nachytal Sergeje Bobrovského obránce Darnell Nurse. A po úspěšně zvládnutém souboji před brankou se bekhendem prosadil Vasilij Podkolzin – 3:3! Během necelých 12 minut Edmonton srovnal…
Co se o pauzách dělo v kabinách finalistů nebylo známo, ale po druhé přestávce se zase obraz hry úplně změnil, aktivita se přenesla na domácí hokejky. Zblízka měl možnost strhnout vedení na floridskou stranu kapitán Aleksander Barkov, jenže Pickardův beton nepřehodil. Po faulu Sama Bennetta měl pak v přesilovce dorážel Perry, ale Bobrovskij fantasticky zasáhl.
Čekalo se na chybu, kterou necelých sedm minut před koncem vyrobili Panthers. Při rozehrávce ztratili ve vlastní třetině puk a mocným nápřahem se prosadil obránce Jake Walman. Jeho rána proletěla nad Bobrovského lapačkou. O tři minuty později mohl pojistku přidat po průniku Draisaitl, ale došlo na domácí power play.
A v ní necelých 20 sekund před vypršením 60. minuty srovnal Sam Reinhart. Potřetí ze čtyř finálových dílů se prodlužovalo!
Už ve druhé minutě edmontonský Trent Frederic po závaru nasměroval puk do tyčky a následnou dorážku za Bobrovského v brankovišti pokryl obránce Gustav Forsling. Domácí fanoušci naopak nadšeně skákali v sedmé minutě, jenže Pickard vyrazil Bennetovu střelu lapačkou na horní tyč…
A tak se přece jen slavilo na straně Edmontonu. Draisaitl tísněn posouval puk jen jednou rukou, ale ten se od bránícího finského beka Nika Mikkoly odrazil přímo mezi Bobrovského betony. Pro německého útočníka to byl už čtvrtý gól v prodloužení v tomto play off. Další skvělá partie měla pro Panthers trpké rozuzlení.
Finále se tak opět stěhuje do Kanady. A obrozený Edmonton v noci na neděli bude mít v Rogers Place možnost vybojovat si doma mečbol.
