Farmářský celek Floridy Charlotte Checkers vedli v prvním finále už 3:1, ale „béčko“ Vancouveru dotáhlo zápas do prodloužení. Ve druhém nastavení došlo ke kuriózní situaci. Centr Abbotsfordu Ty Mueller vyhrál vhazování ve svém obranném pásmu tak nešťastně, že překonal vlastního brankáře Šilovse (na videu v čase 6:58).
Lotyšský gólman zjevně nebyl na situaci připraven. Ve chvíli, kdy se kotouč dotkl ledu, teprve odkládal lahev s vodou na branku. Hned se tak s podivem ohlížel za rozhodčími, co se vlastně na ledě odehrálo.
A to nejdůležitější: sudí se sjeli na poradu k trestoměřičům a branku neuznali. Důvod? Brankář nebyl připraven na zahájení hry.
V 91. minutě pak Canucks vstřelili v přesilovce gól a vyhráli 4:3. Doslova tak utekli hrobníkovi z lopaty a není se co divit, že domácí byli po první porážce pořádně nakvašení.
„Možná jsem stará škola, ale centr by se měl před vhazováním ujistit, že jsou všichni na buly připravení. Myslel jsem, že se jedná o jasný gól, ale pak jsem si všiml, že rozhodčí váhají,“ popisoval trenér Charlotte Gordie Kinnear.
I sami hosté byli překvapeni tím, co se na ledě odehrálo. „Celé to bylo zvláštní, vlastně ani nevím, co se stalo. Bylo vidět, že jejich brankář nebyl připraven, ale to si má pohlídat jejich centr. Nemá jít na buly, pokud nejsou všichni připravení. Neznám přesný výklad pravidel. Myslel jsem, že jsme vyhráli, ale očividně ne,“ vyprávěl pro WBTV obránce domácích Trevor Carrick.
Farma Vancouveru se tak v sérii dostala do vedení. Druhý zápas se hraje z neděle na pondělí.
