Seine Antwort: „Nein, darüber reden wir nicht. So was passiert im Motorsport, das muss nicht besprochen werden.“
SPORT BILD: Um welche Themen dreht es sich sonst? Sagt da mal ein Fahrer ‚Hey, nur damit Ihr Bescheid wisst – ich habe eine neue Freundin, die bringe ich zum nächsten Rennen mit‘?
Russell lacht, sagt: „Wenn es so wäre, würden wir von einigen Fahrern ständig Nachrichten bekommen. Ehrlicherweise ist die Gruppe nicht so aktiv wie alle denken. Lewis hat in letzter Zeit angefangen, Memes zu senden. Das hat mich überrascht. Ansonsten geht es meist um Themen, die in der Fahrerbesprechung aufkamen und zu denen noch Klärungsbedarf besteht. Wie die zwei Boxenstopps in Monaco. Im Endeffekt passiert in der Gruppe jede Woche etwas, aber es ist jetzt keiner dieser Gruppenchats, in denen ständig lustige Bildchen geteilt werden.“

Auf die Frage nach dem Verhältnis der Fahrer untereinander antwortet Russell: „Wir respektieren uns. Alex Albon und ich haben eine enge Beziehung, weil wir ein Jahr zusammengewohnt haben. Wie gehen freundlich miteinander um, aber wir würden wahrscheinlich nicht zusammen in den Urlaub fahren.“
Kein Wunder, immerhin treffen sich die Fahrer an 24 Wochenenden im Jahr zu den Rennen. Und wenn sie sich dann doch mal vermissen, gibt’s ja immer noch die WhatsApp-Gruppe…
