It hasn’t taken long for Pete Carrollto start leaving fingerprints all over the Raiders.
After a disastrous 4-13 season, Las Vegas didn’t just hire a coach-they brought in a philosophy. And according to Maxx Crosby, the locker room feels it already. On Glory Daze, a podcast hosted by Johnny Manziel, Crosby didn’t hold back. “If you’re not a part of the culture, you’re gonna stand out like a sore thumb,” he said. “Pete’s all about that.”

Carroll isn’t trying to be just another voice in the room. He’s pushing players to lead from within while making it clear that every rep counts. Crosby described film sessions that feel more like improv than lectures. “You don’t know what the f- is about to happen,” he said, laughing. “It’s like constant competition.” And that’s exactly how Carroll wants it.
Culture Is Great-But the Cuts Are Real
On Wednesday, the Raiders signed former Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt. The same day, they released Jonathan Sutherland-barely a month after signing him. That wasn’t a depth chart adjustment. That was a statement.
Carroll is done recycling last year’s ideas. Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo, both starters in 2024, are out. In their place: Elandon Roberts, Devin White, Jaylon Smith, and now Pratt-four veterans known for grit, experience, and no-nonsense play. It’s the kind of defensive core Carroll built legends around in Seattle. Now, Vegas is the lab.
But don’t mistake the energy for looseness. Sure, Carroll swings by meetings with oddball questions and jokes, but he’s watching everything. “He’s all gas all the time,” Crosby said. “You’re either in or in the way.”
As ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted, Carroll has always believed in physical, fast, and accountable defenses. For the first time in years, the Raiders are starting to look like one.
