Von wegen Handball-Pause.
Zwei Jahre nach dem deutschen Gold-Märchen bei der Heim-WM will die deutsche U21-Handball-Nationalmannschaft in Polen wieder auftrumpfen. Mittwoch-Abend (21 Uhr/live Dyn) geht es gegen Serbien los. Doch sind diese Junioren nicht der große Favorit auf den Titel, wie die Gold-Generation vor ihnen, wollen trotzdem eine Medaille.
Emotionen pur: Der Meister-Moment der Füchse!
David Moré (Linksaußen bei den Löwen) sagt: „Jeder will das letzte Turnier in dieser Zusammensetzung genießen, wir werden danach so nicht mehr zusammenspielen, uns vielleicht nur noch in der Bundesliga über den Weg laufen. Alle haben Mega-Bock auf die WM. Wir sind gut drauf. In der Vorrunde müssen wir drei Siege holen, denn in der Hauptrunde warten Topteams wie Spanien und Ägypten. Aber ab den K.o.-Spielen ist alles möglich, denn wir können jeden Gegner schlagen.“
DHB-Nachwuchs will eine WM-Medaille
Sieht auch sein Team-Kollege Henri Pabst (wechselt vom THW Kiel nach Lübbecke) so: „Wir haben als Team viele Jahre zusammengespielt und sehen die WM als letzte Reise, das gibt bei jedem fünf Prozent Extra-Motivation. Natürlich wollen wir so lange wie möglich im Turnier bleiben.“
Die Vorgänger der Junioren wurden 2023 Weltmeister, davon haben es bereits acht Spieler in die A-Nationalmannschaft von Alfred Gislason (65) geschafft: David Späth, Justus Fischer, Renars Uscins (alle Hannover-Burgdorf), Nils Lichtlein, Matthes Langhoff, Max Beneke, Tim Freihöfer (alle Füchse Berlin) und Mathis Häseler (Gummersbach).
