For months, Miami Dolphins’ receiver Tyreek Hill and Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles got involved in back-and-forth rivalry sharing sharp words and exciting fans with the idea of a race to find out who is faster.
Just when people started to become excited, the big race was called off, leaving everyone wondering what went wrong.

How everything started
The battle between Hill and Lyles began in early 2024, when Lyles won his fourth 60-meter indoor race and showed a sign that said “Tyreek Could Never“-a bold hit to Hill’s fame as one of the NFL’s fastest.

Hill, known for his quick moves in football, took this personallyand hit back on social media, saying he could out-run the Olympic champ in a race. The big-mouth talks grew sharper over the next months, with both men throwing words and jokes online, making fans expecting that a race was about to happen.
The place was Times Square
By mid-2025, they planned a 50-yard race in Times Square, New York. It was meant to be a real big show, organized like a proper main event, with ads, sponsors, and a big crowd ready to be witness.
Hill went back to racing, running a 100-meter race in California, where he got a top time of 10.15 seconds, a personal best for him. After his race, Hill showed a sign saying “Noah Could Never”, echoing Lyles’ first taunt.

Why was it canceled?
Just days before the race, Lyles pulled out, saying it was for “personal reasons“. No clear reason was given, making fans guess if it was due to his schedule, health, or doubts after seeing Hill’s race.
Hill quickly posted a meme of Homer Simpson hiding, hinting that Lyles was stepping back from the race. He also wrote on social media:
“@LylesNoah after seeing me run the 100m last weekend.“
While the race would have been huge, some think the Miami Dolphins missed out on possible drama. If Hill had lost, it might have hurt his name, and a win could have made sparks fly.
There was also the risk of Hill getting hurt, which could have damaged his NFL season. Now that there’s no race, Hill can focus on football as the Dolphins get ready for the 2025 season after a tough 2024.
Is the race still possible?
Even with the cancelation, the fight between Hill and Lyles is still on, and fans keep guessing if the race will happen later. For now, Hill stays with football, while Lyles keeps winning in running.
We do not know how they will put an end to this ‘rivalry‘, but one thing is sure, both have more to lose than to win, and that is a key factor in this matter if it ends up happening. Either way, fans must keep enjoying them doing what they perform the best at, until then, we will see.
