“Es un grupo muy difícil, el objetivo es dar la cara y competir. Nadie piensa que podamos realmente defender título en el sentido pleno de la palabra, eso lo tenemos asumido y claro entre todos, pero como siempre queremos competir y sorprender, el reto es de mantener una competitividad digna a pesar de estar probablemente en el momento más complicado de nuestra transición generacional”.

“Le veo muy bien, creciendo en cosas que ya hace bien, empezando a mostrar mejora en las cosas que todavía tiene que sumar para aspirar al nivel de excelencia de un grandísimo, cosa que yo creo que puede alcanzar y creo con confianza que su agencia libre se resolverá bastante pronto y me sorprendería que pasara de la mitad de julio”.

“Juancho está haciendo una temporada fantástica, puliendo su juego y haciendo repetidamente las cosas que sabe hacer. Espectacular temporada y esperemos que la remate bien; Willy creo que está dando muestra de algún paso adelante. Ha sido otra temporada bastante complicada, pero últimamente le estoy viendo bastante bien y esperemos que pueda terminar bien él y su equipo”.

“En general, no puede no ser una buena noticia para el baloncesto europeo, todo lo que aporta valor, riqueza y profesionalidad, que es lo que más puede aportar la NBA y es lo que realmente marca mucha diferencia. A partir de ahí veremos, todavía es muy pronto para poder entender exactamente cómo va a quedar todo, pero estas noticias son siempre positivas siempre y cuando el baloncesto europeo sepa digerirlas aportando su identidad y sus tratos diferenciales”.
La nueva generación y el gen competitivo
“Eso no viene con 22 o 23 años, eso viene con más tiempo, hay excepciones porque alguno de la generación anterior tenía este rol de una manera muy marcada y además, habían crecido juntos jugando. Hay que tener paciencia porque todos estamos esperando que estos chicos lleguen a ser referentes en sus equipos y en cuanto lleguen a serlo, podrán aspirar a ser referentes en la selección. Ahora mismo están ganándose minutos de bastante calidad, pero todavía estamos lejos del status de referente, que es lo que necesitamos, jugadores con un nivel de personalidad y liderazgo muy marcados para llevar un poco al resto”.
Compatibilizar cargos
“Mi contrato en la selección está abierto, no para esta temporada. Por supuesto estoy abierto, puedo permitirme de considerar realmente sólo lo que me motiva y me interesa, es la suerte que tengo. Estoy con ganas de poder, si surge la oportunidad adecuada, de poder entrenar a un club”.
