DeWanna Bonner may be nearing the end of her time with the Indiana Fever and Stephanie White doesn’t seem too interested in keeping her around as the head coach suggests the exit door may already be ajar.
Recent reports suggest Bonner is actively seeking a way out of the franchise as playing alongside Caitlin Clark has not worked out as she would have hoped, with limited minutes and production.

She is now said to have no interest in returning to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and is thought to be considering options between the Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury, and has not appeared in a game since June 10 for “personal reasons.”
According to Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports, the relationship between Bonner and the Fever never fully developed, despite the two-time WNBA champion being signed to offer leadership and championship experience to a young roster.
Indiana officials have declined to comment on the report but when White was asked about Bonner’s status ahead of the team’s June 24 matchup against the Seattle Storm, her reply was revealing, if reserved.
“I haven’t had a lot of conversations recently,” White said, according to Chloe Peterson of IndyStar. “You know, really focused on the team we have right here, and what we need to do to position ourselves to win.”
While not confirming Bonner‘s status outright, the 48-year-old’s noncommittal tone added credibility to the suggestion that a split between player and team is imminent. It means her focus appeared entirely on the players currently available, not those who could be.
Bonner banner drama at Gainbridge Fieldhouse
DeWanna‘s continued absence has led to significant speculation from fans and she was listed as inactive again on Tuesday when the Fever took on the Storm and won 94-86, with Aliyah Boston leading the team with 31 points.
The lack of official updates about her absence or a timeline for her return has only intensified public curiosity, particularly as a social media post by a fan sparked further rumors, questioning why her player banner was missing from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse Arena display.
“I don’t see DeWanna Bonner’s banner. #FeverRising #WNBA,” the fan posted on X.com, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a photo of banners hanging in the arena – which is also home to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.
This led to direct responses from Fever insiders. Chloe Peterson of IndyStar clarified that Bonner‘s banner was, in fact, still displayed as of the team’s last home game.
Likewise, Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files also addressed the concern, noting he was out of town covering the Indiana Pacers but would confirm the banner’s status upon his return as they dispelled the idea that the banner had been removed in a symbolic gesture tied to Bonner‘s potential exit.
