AFC giants rumored to be watching Micah Parsons contract drama with Cowboys

As contract discussions between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys continue to stir speculation, a surprising name has entered the conversation: the New England Patriots.

A recent NESN report claims that the Patriots are “eyeing” Parsons’ situation, potentially setting up a major trade push for the All-Pro linebacker. But how much of this is based on reality-and how much is offseason fiction?

Micah Parsons begs Tom Brady for a jersey in an uncomfortable moment caught on tape

The Cowboys and Parsons are engaged in early negotiations over what is expected to be a record-setting extension. Parsons is reportedly looking for a five-year deal worth around $40 million per season, which would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

While NFL Network has floated the idea of a shorter deal to allow Parsons another shot at free agency by age 30, sources close to the Cowboys suggest that both sides prefer a long-term commitment. So far, despite some headlines suggesting “progress,” insiders say there’s little actual movement.

Tension briefly flared recently when Jerry Jones made a dismissive comment about Parsons’ agent. Parsons responded publicly, defending his representation, but the situation was quickly downplayed. Jones has since reiterated that no trade talks involving Parsons are happening and that the linebacker remains central to the team’s future.

Patriots’ interest: Real opportunity or offseason hype?

NESN’s report adds a twist to the saga, claiming New England is monitoring the situation closely. They cite Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s recent comments about improving roster competitiveness and tie it-somewhat loosely-to Parsons. However, Vrabel’s remarks were generic and did not reference any specific players.

The Patriots do have draft capital and cap space, but pulling off a trade for Parsons would require a massive haul, likely multiple first-round picks, followed by a record-breaking contract extension.

That’s a steep price for a team in the early stages of rebuilding. While fans and analysts have floated the idea online, it’s widely seen as unrealistic. One fan on Reddit likened such a move to the disastrous Herschel Walker trade, warning it would mortgage the team’s future.

Meanwhile, Cowboys insiders insist there is no internal talk of moving Parsons. The linebacker himself has said he wants to remain in Dallas long-term and understands that contract talks are just part of the business.

For now, the idea of Parsons in a Patriots uniform remains nothing more than speculation. The more likely outcome is that Dallas eventually locks up its defensive cornerstone with a historic contract, keeping him in a Cowboys jersey for years to come.
