With Shedeur Sanders’ departure, the Colorado Buffaloes are left with some sizable cleats to fill-and two starkly different candidates battling for the job.
Four-star freshman Julian Lewis and senior transfer Kaidon Salter are locked in a high-stakes quarterback competition, but if fans were hoping for clarity, Deion Sanders is giving them just the opposite.
Coach Prime has been dodging questions about his QB1 with the agility of a running back in the open field. While Lewis dazzled in high school, shattering records along the way, Salter brings veteran experience from Liberty and a steadier hand. Yet neither has faced Big 12 defenses, leaving the race wide open-and wildly unpredictable.
Who will Coach Prime send to Big 12 Media Day?
According to Sports Illustrated’s Jack Carlough, Sanders has once again put his knack for misdirection on full display.
“The Colorado Buffaloes are taking a somewhat unique approach to who they’re sending to next week’s Big 12 football media days at The Star in Frisco, Texas.”
While most programs send their expected starter, Coach Prime is taking both Lewis and Salter-making Colorado the only Big 12 school bringing two quarterbacks.
This classic Sanders move buys him precious time-and keeps fans, opponents, and analysts guessing.
Who will be Colorado’s QB in Week 1?
Although there’s been no official word, Associated Press insider Pat Graham suggests Salter might be leading the race:
“Salter showed a veteran’s poise when it was his turn,” he noted, while Lewis delivered a more inconsistent spring performance.
Many still believe Lewis is the long-term answer under center, but for now, Salter’s experience may give him the edge heading into Week 1.
Only one person truly knows who will take the first snap for the Buffs-and if this offseason has proven anything, it’s that Coach Prime isn’t ready to let that secret slip just yet.
