Die Frauenbasketball-Profiliga WNBA in den USA expandiert – aber nicht jeder ist begeistert!
Am Montag kündigte die Liga an, bis 2030 drei neue Teams aufzunehmen. Nach den bereits bestätigten Standorten Toronto und Portland ab der kommenden Saison sollen weitere Teams in Cleveland (2028), Detroit (2029) und Philadelphia (2030) folgen. Die Liga würde dann aus insgesamt 18 Teams bestehen.
Doch schon am Tag nach der großen Ankündigung sorgt eine Spielerin für Ärger: Sophie Cunningham (28), Guard bei Indiana Fever und seit 2019 in der Liga, stellt die Standortwahl offen infrage!

Zudem stellte Cunningham das Tempo der Expansion infrage: „Ich bin mir nicht sicher, was der Gedankengang dahinter ist. Am Ende des Tages muss man aber auch sicherstellen, dass die Liga nicht zu schnell wächst. Das ist auch ein Punkt. Es ist insgesamt eine schwierige Entscheidung. Aber ehrlich gesagt: Wie viele Leute freuen sich wirklich auf Detroit oder Cleveland …?“

Die Stadt Detroit ließ sich das nicht gefallen und konterte prompt auf X (ehemals Twitter): „Als wir zuletzt ein WNBA-Team (Detroit Shock) hatten, lagen wir fünf Jahre in Folge in den Top 5 bei den Zuschauerzahlen, drei Jahre auf Platz 1. Beim dritten Finalspiel 2003 kamen 22.076 Fans – Rekord!“
Und weiter: „2024 kamen über 775.000 Menschen zum NFL Draft nach Detroit. Wir sind eine Sportstadt – und freuen uns auf das WNBA-Comeback!“

Cunningham erzielte später im Spiel 13 Punkte beim Sieg gegen Minnesota. Nach der Partie sprach sie nicht mit Reportern. Fever-Superstar Caitlin Clark (23) fehlte aufgrund einer Leistenverletzung.
Cunninghams Coach Stephanie White sieht die Expansion positiv, da alle neuen Franchises in Märkten mit NBA-Teams spielen werden: „Ich denke, das ist eine gute Sache. Wir haben eine feste Fangemeinde, teilen uns die Ausgaben – und wir füllen NBA-Hallen. Unsere Liga wächst über kleinere Arenen hinaus. Das sind großartige Chancen.“

Informaci o prodloužení přinesl server iSport.cz, kterému ji potvrdil Trpišovského agent Jiří Müller. Na detailech dohody se devětačtyřicetiletý trenér a jeho agent domluvili s majitelem klubu Pavlem Tykačem a předsedou představenstva Jaroslavem Tvrdíkem.„Ano, mohu potvrdit, že jsme se dohodli. Pro Jindru a jeho tým je Slavia životem a těší se na další výzvy,“ uvedl Müller.Trpišovský od svého příchodu do klubu v roce 2018 slavil čtyřikrát mistrovský titul a stejný počet triumfů v domácím poháru. Se Slavií také dvakrát postoupil do základní skupiny Ligy mistrů.Po odvolání Ivana Haška z pozice hlavního trenéra české reprezentace se právě o Trpišovském spekulovalo jako o ideálním kandidátovi.
