Mike Evans hopes to enjoy another dream season, both individually and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2024, he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark once again-this time on the final play of the regular season-allowing him to remain in a rare group of receivers who have posted more than 1,000 receiving yards in consecutive seasons. It marked his 11th straight season hitting that benchmark. His contribution helped the Bucs secure the NFC South title.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, now just two months away, Evans hopes to reach that milestone earlier, allowing him some breathing room without the added pressure of chasing the stat at the last minute.

Hopefully I can do it … early.
Evans is preparing for his 12th NFL season and is focused on staying healthy. In 2024, he missed three games due to a hamstring injury-one of the most difficult of his career, as he acknowledged in recent remarks.
Chasing Jerry Rice’s record
Now that he has tied Jerry Rice’s record, the possibility of breaking it this season is very real. In anticipation of this, the legendary San Francisco 49ers receiver has already given Evans his “blessing.”
Rice set the record back in 1996, during an era when the NFL played only 16 regular-season games, not the current 17.
You know that I’m pulling for you, right?
Rice told Evans.
To which Evans replied:
That means more to me than you could ever know, so I appreciate that, O.G. You are the original. … This is so surreal right now. This is surreal for me that you know who I am.
An enviable milestone already secured
Evans already holds the record for the most 1,000-yard seasons from the start of a career-11 in total. The closest behind him is Randy Moss, now retired, with six. As for the most consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards, Jerry Rice still leads with 14.
The two receivers spoke during an episode of The Players’ Tribune, discussing their position and various aspects of the game. Though they first met in 2018, this was the first time they had an extended conversation.
You perfected just route running in general,” Evans said. “But the post-corner is to me your best route, and I’ve learned how to run that route because of you.
Rice responded:
You got to be able to sell routes. You got to make the opponent believe your first cut is really where you’re going to get the ball.
They also shared thoughts on mutual respect and what it means to share this particular record.
Being able to sit down and talk to the greatest receiver ever was pretty humbling,” Evans reflected. “The things he had to say about me-it was a great moment for me. … That’s another thing that was humbling about it-how he received me. He showed me love, so that was really cool.
Now 32 years old, Evans hasn’t revealed how much longer he plans to stay in the NFL. In 2023, he expressed dissatisfaction with his contract situation-this is his final year under that deal.
However, his perspective now seems more measured.
I honestly haven’t even thought about [the future]… I just thought about having a great year this year, and we’ll see what happens.
Evans said.
