Mit jeder Treppenstufe abwärts nimmt die Hitze auf der Tribüne zu. Die heiße Luft staut sich, wirkt erdrückend. An den unteren Plätzen angekommen, verbrennen wir uns an der Plastik-Sitzschale beinahe die Finger.
42,3 Grad Celsius misst das Thermometer in der Nähe der Trainerbank beim dritten BVB-Gruppenspiel der Klub-WM gegen Ulsan HD (1:0/Anstoß um 15 Uhr US-Zeit) in Cincinnati (Ohio). Ähnliche Bedingungen drohen den Fans auch im kommenden Jahr bei der WM in den USA, Kanada und Mexiko.
Die SPORT BILD-Reporter machen den Test und setzen sich vor Anpfiff in die pralle Sonne. Im klimatisierten Innenraum hatte die Körpertemperatur-Messung zuvor 35,9° Celsius ergeben. Nach zehn Minuten in der Sonne die erneute Messung: Der Wert ist schon jetzt auf mehr als 39° hochgeschnellt – Fieber-Temperaturen. Nach 15 Minuten geht nichts mehr: Abbruch und schnell raus aus der Hitze! Der Schweiß läuft den Rücken hinunter, und auch dem Thermometer wird es zu viel – zeigt „Error“ an.
[–>Und die Zuschauer leiden noch mehr. Für das günstigste Klub-WM-Ticket (37 Dollar) bekommen sie trägen Zeitlupen-Fußball zu sehen. Durch die Extrembelastungen sinkt das Leistungsniveau massiv ab. Oder wie es BVB-Trainer Niko Kovac (53) formulierte: „Die Spieler werden gebraten wie die Grillhähnchen. Das hat mit dem eigentlichen Fußball-Sport nichts mehr zu tun.“ Und weiter: „Es gewinnt nicht unbedingt die beste Mannschaft, sondern die Mannschaft, die sich mit diesen Bedingungen am besten zurechtfindet.“ Die große Gefahr: Dass auch die WM im kommenden Jahr zur Hitze-Schlacht wird.
Die großen US-Stadien sind zwar spektakulär, viele haben aber kein Dach, das die Fans vor Sonneneinstrahlung und Gewittern schützt.
Weiteres Aufreger-Thema sind die teils horrenden Preise. Bei der Klub-WM kostet ein Bier (16 fluid ounces, umgerechnet knapp ein halber Liter) 13,99 Dollar (12 Euro). Für eine Tüte Käsechips werden 12,99 $ (11 Euro) verlangt, für eine ganze Pizza sogar 39,99 $ (34 Euro).
Und auch logistisch werden die Fans vor Herausforderungen gestellt. Eine Bahnanbindung haben nur die wenigsten Stadien. Zum Spiel zwischen Inter Miami und Palmeiras São Paulo im Hard Rock Stadium geht es mit dem Fahrdienst Uber. Vom Hotel, das in der Nähe des BVB-Quartiers in Fort Lauderdale liegt, sind es bis zum Stadion in Miami 38 Kilometer – die Fahrt kostet 40 Euro. Der Ankunftspunkt befindet sich allerdings rund drei Meilen (4,8 Kilometer) von der Arena entfernt.
Nachspielzeit-Wahnsinn!: BVB fliegt knapp aus der Klub-WM
Auf dem Rückweg wird es noch komplizierter: Die Fahrt kostet plötzlich 132 Euro, weil sich die Preise immer nach der Nachfrage richten. Erst nach drei Meilen Fußweg ist überhaupt ein Wagen zu bekommen. Die meisten Fans warten deutlich weiter entfernt – vergeblich. Das gleiche Problem existiert auch bei NFL-Spielen und Konzerten. Nicht nur in Miami, sondern an vielen US-Spielorten.
Aufgrund der riesigen Distanzen zwischen den Stadien wird man auch 2026 lange Flugstrecken in Kauf nehmen müssen. Ein Beispiel: Die beiden Spielorte Miami und Vancouver (Kanada) liegen über 4500 Kilometer Luftlinie auseinander – die Flugzeit beträgt fünf bis sechs Stunden. Vergleichbar mit einer Reise von Berlin nach Dubai!
Von Fußball-Euphorie ist bei der Klub-WM bislang wenig zu spüren. Das dürfte sich im kommenden Jahr durch Tausende Fans aus aller Welt ändern – die Hitze und andere Probleme werden allerdings bleiben …
