Tua Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel must move from the tightrope they are on if they don’t want to fly out of Miami

The NFL season is getting closer every day, and as it approaches (although it’s not rainy season in the United States right now), it seems that the rain in Miami is only falling on Tua Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel, keeping them on the wet ground. If they don’t act quickly, they could slip away from the Dolphins.

While Tua just entered the NFL’s Top 100 at 91st, the timing and the image couldn’t be more awkward. Both he and McDaniel are running out of space. If the quarterback can’t stay on the field and the coach can’t perform, the franchise won’t hesitate to release both.

Concussions have plagued Tua Tagovailoa with the Dolphins

Tagovailoa’s availability has been a flashpoint. His first documented NFL concussion in 2022, suffered during a terrifying hit against the Bengals, came just four days after he stumbled off the field against Buffalo. Doubts about his durability have dogged him ever since.

Tua Tagovailoa’s contract might indicate he’s locked in through 2026, but the numbers tell a different story. He’s severely overstretched. The kind of structure that quietly prepares for a clean exit after 2025 if things go wrong. If the team isn’t performing at its best, a new regime could easily justify a reboot.

Mike McDaniel’s Future with Miami Remains Up in the Air

During a recent segment on Bleacher Report, NFL draft analyst Ray G. Que put it bluntly: “The instability of the quarterback position and other issues with Miami,” he said, “leave Mike’s future up in the air.” McDaniel has shown flashes of brilliance with the Dolphins, but the margin for error has evaporated.

The results were electrifying: In 2023, Tua led the league with 4,624 passing yards. But fast-forward to 2025, and that optimism has begun to fade. The Dolphins have yet to win a playoff game since 2000. And suddenly, McDaniel’s future feels more fragile than innovative.

Well, let's find out. I'm not a Debbie Downer, but that's the role I'm going to play here. We're going to make the bust case for every Round 1 player based on their CBS Sports average draft position in a PPR league following the second week of preseason action. And we're going to try and do this without factoring in injuries, although for some players, that's hard to avoid. Now, I'm not expecting all of these players to be busts since most of them are ranked in my first round. But maybe the reasoning on why they could fail will change your perspective, and you might […]
