Linksaußen Lukas Becher muss die HSG Wetzlar verlassen. Der Handball-Bundesligist hat dem Flügelflitzer mitgeteilt, dass er sich einen neuen Klub suchen soll.

Betrachtet man die letzten Jahre, kommt diese Mitteilung durchaus überraschend. Der 1,90-Meter-Mann war seit seinem Wechsel 2022 von TUSEM Essen bei der HSG auf Links gesetzt, machte in der abgelaufenen Saison alle 34 Spiele in der Daikin HBL.
Allerdings: Mit 56 Saisontoren rangiert Becher nur auf Rang 21 unter den Linksaußen in der HBL. Zum Vergleich: Flensburgs Weltmeister Emil Jakobsen kommt auf 244 Treffer. Noch schlechter ist die Quote des Wetzlarers, der nur 59,6 Prozent seiner Würfe im Tor unterbrachte. Für einen Außen schlicht nicht gut genug.

Deshalb ist die sportliche Entscheidung gefallen: Künftig baut der neue Trainer Momir Ilic auf Neuzugang Ahmed Nafea und Lion Zacharias. In der Pressemitteilung erklärt der Verein: „Auf der linken Außenbahn setzt das Trainerteam auf das Duo Ahmed Nafea und Lion Zacharias.“
Nafea kommt vom serbischen Spitzenklub RK Vojvodina, ist ägyptischer Nationalspieler und die Nummer eins auf seiner Position. Ein Allrounder, der auch in der Abwehr überzeugt.

Der 22-jährige Zacharias hat sich in den letzten Monaten bei Ilic und Sportchef Jasmin Camdzic in den Fokus gespielt, argumentiert die HSG: „Zacharias hat sich zuletzt unter Ilic stark präsentiert und sich seinen Platz im Kader erarbeitet.“ Die Wurfquote des Youngsters lag immerhin bei knapp 65 Prozent.
Für Becher bedeutet das: Die Tür zur ersten Mannschaft ist zu. „Wir respektieren natürlich seinen Vertrag, der noch bis Juni 2026 läuft. Aber sportlich setzen wir auf Ahmed und Lion. Was das für Lukas bedeutet, ist ihm klar“, sagt Sportchef Jasmin Camdzic deutlich.
