Lionel Messi continues to rewrite history in Major League Soccer with his latest stellar performance. In Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over Nashville SC at Chase Stadium, Messi bagged a brace, reaffirming his status as one of the game’s all-time greats.
The Argentine superstar opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a stunning free-kick-his trademark move that’s becoming increasingly difficult to stop. His second goal, a simple tap-in, proved to be one of the easiest of his illustrious career.

This brace follows his two-goal display against the New England Revolution just days earlier. Messi’s quickfire exploits have broken records once again. He has now become the first player in MLS history to score a brace in five consecutive games, surpassing his own record of four straight games with multiple goals set earlier this season.
With 10 goals in his last five matches, Messi has now tied Nashville’s Sam Surridge as the joint top scorer in the league.
Messi’s recent goal-scoring exploits put him in elite company. Over his past five MLS appearances, he has netted 10 goals, bringing his total for the season to 14. Additionally, Messi has contributed 7 assists in just 15 matches.
His total of 22 goal contributions places him second in the league, just behind San Diego FC’s Anders Dreyer, who has 24. At 38 years old, Messi shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to deliver high-level performances despite the packed schedule and intense competition.
Mid-season surge: Can Miami keep climbing?
Inter Miami currently sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with 38 points from 19 games-just three points behind Nashville in third place and five points below league leaders Philadelphia Union.
With three games in hand, Miami has a real chance to close that gap and make a strong push for the playoffs. Messi’s blistering form will be key to their success in the coming months.
Looking ahead, Inter Miami will face FC Cincinnati, the second-ranked team in the East, in an important midweek match. After that, Messi and his teammates will head to New Jersey to take on the NY Red Bulls, before returning home on July 26 to face FC Cincinnati again. In late July, Inter Miami kicks off their 2025 Leagues Cup journey against Atlas FC.
While Messi’s presence in the match against Cincinnati on July 26 is uncertain-he will be participating in the MLS All-Star Game on July 23-his influence on the pitch is undeniable. Despite being 38 years old, Messi’s continued brilliance gives Inter Miami hope for a strong finish to the season.
