„Was macht er da?“ – Chelsea-Star völlig verwirrt von merkwürdigem Trump-Auftritt

Raus aus dem Rampenlicht, dem Zentrum des Geschehens? Nicht mit ihm …

US-Präsident Donald Trump (79) hat bei der Siegerehrung nach dem Klub-WM-Finale für einen merkwürdigen Auftritt gesorgt. Nachdem Fifa-Präsident Gianni Infantino (55) die Trophäe auf dem Podium an Chelsea-Kapitän Reece James (25) übergeben hatte, bat der Chef des Fußball-Weltverbandes auch Trump von der Bühne, damit die Mannschaft der „Blues“ den Pokal-Moment genießen könne. Doch Trump dachte gar nicht daran, das Podest zu verlassen, blieb neben dem sichtlich verwunderten James stehen – auch noch, als der Chelsea-Star dann die Trophäe in die Höhe stemmte, das gesamte Team ausgelassen feierte.

Eine bizarre Szene, die auch einen anderen Star des Premier-League-Klubs sichtlich irritierte: Matchwinner Cole Palmer (traf beim 3:0 im Finale gegen PSG zweimal).

Der englische Offensiv-Spieler stand hinter James und Trump, war offenkundig eher nicht damit einverstanden, dass Trump bei den Feierlichkeiten im Kreis der Chelsea-Mannschaft bleiben wollte. Seine Blicke sprachen Bände – er versuchte noch kurz, James davon abzuhalten, die Schale in die Höhe zu stemmen, redete auf ihn ein, die britische Zeitung „Daily Mail“ übersetzte seine Worte mit „What’s he doing?“ – Was macht er da?

Reece reckte die Trophäe schließlich einfach in die Höhe – und Trump klatschte Beifall. So war der US-Präsident mit auf den Jubelbildern.

Palmer, der zum „Man of the Match“ gekürt wurde, äußerte sich nach der Partie zu der Szene, sagte: „Ich wusste schon, dass er da sein würde, aber ich wusste nicht, dass er auch auf dem Podium sein würde, wenn wir die Trophäe hochhalten würden. Also war ich ein wenig verwirrt …“

Schon als Trump, begleitet von Infantino, zur Siegerehrung auf den Rasen des Stadions in New Jersey geschritten war, hatte er von den über 80.000 Zuschauern gespaltene Reaktionen erfahren. Es gab Applaus für ihn, aber auch deutlich lautere Buhrufe. Trump wirkte davon jedoch unbeeindruckt. Er hatte offenbar Freude an der Siegerehrung. Das Finale selbst hatte Trump überwiegend in einer Stadionloge an der Seite seiner Frau und First Lady Melania Trump sowie dem Ehepaar Infantino verbracht.

[–>In einem Jahr wird die WM-Endrunde der Nationalmannschaft ebenfalls im Stadion in East Rutherford unweit von New York City enden. Das Finale findet am 19. Juli 2026 statt. Trumps Amtszeit als Präsident läuft dann noch.
