Lane Kiffin hints at a possible return to coaching from Nick Saban

SEC Media Day was the perfect moment to create storylines toward the 2025 College Football season. Maybe to talk about a possible coaches union being formed, but there was another particular topic that resounded in Atlanta. Comments from Lane Kiffin have reignited speculation that Nick Saban’s departure from Alabama in January 2024 could be temporary. Described as a “one-year in the media then back” scenario, Kiffin believes the legendary coach isn’t fully done and will likely return to coaching, whether in the college ranks or the NFL.

Following his storied career at Alabama, Saban transitioned into broadcasting with ESPN College GameDay at age 73, but sources clos to former players like Greg McElroy suggest his coaching fire still burns bright.

Lane Kiffin on Saban, “He’s so sharp”

Ole Miss head coach and former Alabama coordinator under Saban, Kiffin weighed in on his former boss’ future. Noting Saban’s sharp intellect and meticulous process, Kiffin redoubled his conviction that Saban’s hiatus from coaching is unlikely to last. He highlighted Saban’s NFL and College Football experience -coaching the Miami Dolphins, Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, and Toledo– and emphasized that Saban’s blend of acumen and leadership makes his retirement status look more like a temporary shift.

“I kind of thought it might be the NFL, just because he’s so sharp still. I just saw something yesterday where he was doing some interview. He’s so sharp and has the process so nailed of how to do it that I almost see it as a waste that he’s not coaching”, declared Kiffin.

Is Saban returning to College or NFL?

The Rebels’ coach suggests that an NFL return could be in Saban’s crosshairs, given his earlier positions with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Oilers, and Dolphins. But Kiffin also holds out hope for a collegiate comeback, potentially at Alabama or another program, as Saban’s legacy would resonate poweruflly in either arena.

“I did read what (Greg McElroy) said earlier today, and then they asked me a question and I’m like, ‘Yeah, he’s going to coach again. I don’t know if it’s college or NFL, but he’s gonna coach again.’ So he put that in my head and I repeated it. … But I have thought that. I thought it’d be probably one year in the media then back”, Kiffin added, leaving fans ans analysts buzzing across both football worlds.

David Montgomery Carries Childhood Pain as He Returns Home For Lions-Bengals

David Montgomery will return home when the Lions face the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday. While the trip might remind him of some painful childhood memories, it'll also serve as a reminder of why the Lions running back is doing what he does.In an interview with FOX Sports' Tom Rinaldi, Montgomery opened up about his rough childhood experience in Cincinnati, which included moving to multiple homes and sleeping through cold nights. "My mom, she's a soldier," Montgomery said. "She worked double, triple shifts sometimes. But it was just never enough. There were nights where we didn't eat. There were times where the heat and stuff went off. We just turned the oven on as hot as we could. Sometimes, my brothers and I would take baths where we would be out of heat and we would just boil the water." ADVERTISEMENT […]

Hamilton given Singapore GP penalty as Alonso hits out at Ferrari driver

Lewis Hamilton has been given a five-second time penalty which demotes him to eighth behind Fernando Alonso at the Singapore Grand Prix.Hamilton exceeded track limits "multiple" times during the last laps of the Singapore Grand Prix after his front brakes failed and he tried to nurse his car home to the anger of Alonso. In a foul-mouthed radio rant, Alonso said: "I cannot f****** believe it. I mean, I cannot f****** believe it. I cannot f****** believe it. Is it safe to drive with no brakes?"For me, you cannot drive when the car is unsafe. Sometimes they try to disqualify me with no mirror, and now you have no brakes and everything is fine? I doubt it."Hamilton just held off Alonso by four tenths but his five-second time penalty put him behind the Aston Martin driver, whose seventh place is […]

After Tough Game 1 Loss, the Mariners Now Face the Cy Young Frontrunner

<!--> [--> Rowan Kavner MLB Writer <!--> --> SEATTLE – The Mariners had already waited 8,755 days since their last home postseason win. Now, that wait will last at least one day longer. This time, unlike their last opportunity to win a playoff game at T-Mobile Park three years ago, they managed to scratch a couple runs across. This time, the extra-inning affair only went 11 innings; it didn’t go 18. This time, it started the American League Division Series; it didn’t finish it. The Mariners still have a chance to make amends. But in their first home playoff game since a gutting marathon loss against the Astros ended their season three years ago, they were again left to wonder what could have been in a 3-2 defeat to start the ALDS. On Saturday night, the Tigers outscored, outmaneuvered and outlasted the Mariners, who remain […]

Bengals Have Cooled Tensions, Shouldn’t Look to Add a QB at Deadline

The Cincinnati Bengals' season was derailed in Week 2 when Joe Burrow got hurt, and most people would say they need to upgrade from backup quarterback Jake Browning.Julian Edelman says that's not the case.On "FOX NFL Kickoff," Edelman said Browning has shown that he's capable of enough success to start the rest of the season. He also noted that no quarterback is going to come in the middle of the season and build a good rapport with the playmakers around him quickly enough to make a big impact."I would not," Edelman said of trading for a new starting quarterback. "Browning shows that he's had success. He went 4-3 a couple of years ago when Joe Burrow got hurt then. He's been in this system. You're not going to bring anyone in that's going to know these players like Browning immediately […]
