Bei Manchester United war er in Ungnade gefallen. Jetzt will er seine Karriere in Spanien wieder neustarten – und eine Fußball-Legende glaubt ganz fest an seinen Durchbruch in der kommenden Saison.
Marcus Rashford wird in Kürze beim FC Barcelona vorgestellt. Der Engländer ist bereits in Spanien. Es seien nur noch Kleinigkeiten zu klären, heißt es in spanischen Medien. Dann soll der Stürmer für ein Jahr auf Leihbasis beim LaLiga-Klub unterschreiben.
Ein Neuanfang. Bei Manchester United war der englische Nationalspieler zuletzt außen vor. In der abgelaufenen Saison war er bereits an Aston Villa innerhalb der Premier League verliehen. Nach seiner Rückkehr wurde ihm mitgeteilt, dass man nicht mehr auf ihn setzt.

Dabei kann sich Lineker einen Seitenhieb gegen Rashfords Stammklub Man United nicht verkneifen. Aus seiner Sicht sind die „Red Devils“ nicht mehr die beste Adresse für Top-Stars. Denn: „Was ist mit den Spielern passiert, die Manchester verlassen haben? Die Spieler, die gegangen sind, geben alles, sie haben überall unglaubliche Erfolge erzielt. Also stimmt im Moment etwas nicht bei United, und die Spieler, die gegangen sind, waren im Allgemeinen erfolgreich.“
Macht Manchester United die Spieler schlechter?
Rashford stammt aus der eigenen Jugend des Klubs, wurde dort Profi und zwischenzeitlich zum Leistungs- und Hoffnungsträger des Vereins. Als Man United aber 2021 Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo zurückholte, geriet Rashford nach und nach aufs Abstellgleis. Der einstige Hoffnungsträger wurde zum Problem. Seine Leistungen ließen nach.
Unter Trainer Erik ten Hag kam es dann zum Knall. Der Niederländer kritisierte seine Einstellung und Trainingsleistungen öffentlich. Das Tischtuch zwischen Rashford und Man United war endgültig zerschnitten – auch nachdem ten Hag gefeuert wurde.

Jetzt scheint Rashford wieder neu motiviert zu sein, das hat auch Lineker erkannt, sagt über den Stürmer: „Rashford scheint mit der richtigen Einstellung anzukommen, das ist eine große Herausforderung für ihn.“
Leicht wird er es aber nicht haben. „Er kommt zu einem Verein mit brillanten Spielern, wo es schwierig sein wird, regelmäßig zu spielen. Aber es gibt viele Spiele, und obwohl Barça drei Stürmer wie Raphinha, Lewandowski und Lamine hat, kann man nicht erwarten, dass sie jedes Spiel von Anfang bis Ende durchspielen“, warnt Lineker.
Sein Fazit: „Es ist ein guter Transfer für Barcelona. Wenn Marcus in Bestform ankommt, ist das unglaublich.“
