Auch Weltmeister Lionel Messi muss sich in der MLS an die Regeln halten. Der Superstar wurde für ein Spiel gesperrt, weil er nicht am All-Star-Game teilnahm. Gleiches Schicksal für seinen Teamkollegen Jordi Alba bei Inter Miami.

„Ich weiß, dass Lionel Messi diese Liga liebt“, erklärte MLS-Chef Don Garber. „Kein Spieler hat mehr für die Major League Soccer getan als Messi.“ Doch die Regeln sind klar: „Wir mussten die Teilnahme-Richtlinien durchsetzen.“ Die Entscheidung sei nicht leicht gefallen, betonte Garber.
So zeigt die MLS, dass auch Superstars sich an die Regeln halten müssen.
