Zumindest hier spielt RB Leipzig noch Champions League. Im „Öschberghof“ in Donaueschingen absolviert der Bundesligist derzeit sein einwöchiges Trainingslager. Der Klub hat Teile des Fünf-Sterne-Luxus-Hotels (Zimmer ab 440 Euro) exklusiv gebucht. In dem Resort nächtigte in der Vergangenheit bereits der FC Liverpool mit Trainer Jürgen Klopp (58), bei der Heim-EM 2024 war das Hotel Herberge von Europameister Spanien.
Diesen Glanz versprühte RB Leipzig zuletzt eher nicht, der Klub hat eine Schrott-Saison hinter sich und erstmals das europäische Geschäft verpasst. Als Folge wurde in der Sommerpause an vielen Stellschrauben gedreht. SPORT BILD erklärt, wie RB den Neustart meistern will:
► Mehr Leistungsprinzip! Sport-Boss Marcel Schäfer (41) hat es sich zur wichtigsten Aufgabe gemacht, die Gehaltsstruktur zu verändern. So enthalten alle neuen Verträge – von Spielern, vom Trainerteam und im Staff – eine Staffelung. Ohne die Quali für die Champions League gibt es bis zu 30 Prozent weniger Gehalt. Platzierungsprämien wird es künftig nur noch geben, wenn die Champions League erreicht wird.

Statt zweistelligen Gehältern, wie sie Xavi Simons (22/elf Mio. Euro) und Timo Werner (29/zehn Mio.) haben, gibt es als Grundgehalt künftig maximal fünf Mio. Euro zu verdienen. Die im Erfolgsfall allerdings durch Prämien deutlich und fast bis auf das Doppelte ansteigen können. Verrückt: Unter Schäfers Vorgängern wurden sogar Verträge ausgegeben, in denen Bonuszahlungen verankert sind, ohne dass sie an ein bestimmtes Ziel gekoppelt sind.

Und wurden vorher auch abseits des Platzes durchleuchtet: Weil es letzte Saison Grüppchenbildung in der Kabine gab, wurden diesmal auch verstärkt Gespräche geführt und beim sogenannten „Charakter-Screening“ die Social-Media-Kanäle der Spieler durchforstet.
Dazu kommt: Das Scouting bei RB war zuletzt sehr video- und datenlastig, künftig soll wieder mehr auf Live Scouting gesetzt werden – bei Spielen, aber auch wenn möglich bei Trainingseinheiten, wo man den Charakter der Spieler noch besser sieht. Für diesen Bereich wurde Max Englert (36) vom FC Bayern als neuer „Head of Live Scouting“ abgeworben.

► Mehr Underdog-Denken! Die Champions-League-Quali war eigentlich immer das Mindestziel, das soll auch künftig wieder so sein: Aber aktuell nimmt niemand das Wort Champions League in den Mund. So war auch auf der ersten Pressekonferenz von Neu-Trainer Ole Werner (37) immer nur die Rede von Europa. Bewusstes Understatement in Zeiten des Umbruchs! Intern hat man sich darauf verständigt: Wenn die Transferperiode vorbei ist und der Kader steht, will man ein Resümee ziehen und ein Saisonziel definieren.

Werner setzt es konsequent um. So wurden in Trainingseinheiten zuletzt auch 1000-Meter-Läufe integriert. Spieler berichten, die Einheiten seien so hart wie lange nicht. Ex-Coach Marco Rose (48) soll der Meinung gewesen sein, man hole sich die Fitness über die Spiele.
