Como president responds to rumors linking Lionel Messi with Cesc Fabregas’ team

Rumours linking Lionel Messi with Como 1907 caused a stir in Italy and the rest of the world, especially after Messi’s family visited the Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium.

Indeed, Antonela Roccuzzo and her children were present at the Como stadium, however, this visit would not be related to the career of the Argentine star, but rather to the visit of an old friend Cesc Fabregas, current coach of the Italian team.

Leo Messi’s new friend is in town, enjoying some mate while watching an Inter Miami match

On the subject, the club’s president, Mirwan Suwarso, has denied the rumors, stating that there are no negotiations with Leo Messi, although he did admit that he would love the idea of having him in his team.

“It would be a dream if he came here,” Suwarso told La Stampa. “But why would he leave a team where he earns so much money? We haven’t had any contact.”

He later told Sky that it was “not even a dream”, that it was “simply impossible”, thus sentencing any possible rumours.

What did Cesc Fabregas say about Leo Messi?

Como coach Cesc Fabregas was one of the key players in fueling the speculation, as being a close friend of Messi, Fabregas received his family during a visit to the stadium, which was enough to unleash rumors.

His response fueled the rumors because, contrary to the club president, the former Spanish soccer player said “Never say never” when asked about the possibility of signing Messi.

Although this does not mean that there are negotiations between the two parties, nor even that there is a plan for the future, as Messi is at the end of his career and his return to the old continent, and also to a small club like Como seems unlikely to say the least. Although many fans and experts have also rightly stated that Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami, a year before it took place seemed completely outlandish.

Where will Lionel Messi play next season?

Currently, the world champion’s situation with Inter Miami is complicated, as his contract expires in December 2025, and negotiations for a renewal are on hold because, according to information from various media outlets, Messi is “extremely upset” by a sanction imposed after he missed the MLS All-Star Game.

Although this does not necessarily mean that Como is even in the orbit of the Argentine star

Like 1907 and its ambitious project

Beyond the rumors, Como 1907 is showing an ambitious sporting project, backed by a strong investment.

The club has spent more than 100 million euros this summer, although it has also suffered rejections, such as Theo Hernandez or Malick Thiaw.

One of their most promising players is Nico Paz, a Real Madrid youth player, who is currently playing for the Italian team. Although the Spanish club has a buy-back clause that it could activate in 2026 or 2027, Suwarso said they are working to retain him

Como aims high, although it is aware of its limitations as a modest club, however, they are on the right track and in a few years could be one of the great revelations in Serie A.
