Die U19-Junioren des Deutschen Handballbundes (DHB) reisen zur WM (6. bis 17. August) nach Kairo. Was sie im Land der Pharaonen sportlich erwartet, ist das große Rätsel.

Deutsche U19-Handballer fliegen ins Ungewisse
Klar sind die Vorrundengegner in Gruppe E. Deutschland muss gegen die Färöer, Uruguay und Slowenien ran.
Bundestrainer Erik Wudtke (53), bei der A-Nationalmannschaft Assistent von Alfred Gislason, über die ersten drei Gegner: „Uruguay hat wenig Erfahrung auf so hohem Niveau, für sie ist die Teilnahme schon ein großer Erfolg. Die Färöer haben ihre Talente sehr gut entwickelt und ausgebildet. Die Slowenen sind seit Jahren im zentralen Rückraum sehr spielstark und haben schon eine gewisse Attitüde des Männer-Handballs.“
Bisher hagelte es diesen Sommer bereits Medaillen, den DHB-Nachwuchs. Die weibliche U19 holte sensationell Gold bei der Europameisterschaft. Beim Europäischen Olympischen Sommer-Jugendfestival (EYOF) holte die weibliche U17 Gold, die männliche U17 Silber.

Kapitän der deutschen U19 ist Bennet Strobel (19, HBW Balingen-Weilstetten), er ist der Sohn des Ex-Balingers Wolfgang Strobel und Neffe von Martin Strobel, dem Spielmacher der deutschen Europameister-Mannschaft von 2016. Strobel junior: „Ich freue mich unfassbar auf dieses Turnier. Es ist meine erste Weltmeisterschaft.“ Der Kreisläufer verfügt bereits jetzt über Zweitliga-Erfahrung, die er mit Balingen sammeln konnte.
