Guardiola le da la razón a Mourinho sobre la Champions: “Ahora entiendo cuando lo dijo”

El Manchester City de Guardiola atraviesa una de sus temporadas más complicadas en los últimos años. Lejos de la cabeza en Premier, y eliminados de Champions League, los pupilos del técnico catalán han visto como la presente campaña se le ha ido escapando de las manos poco a poco. En este contexto, Guardiola afirmó, en la rueda de prensa previa al encuentro contra el Leicester, que la gente estaba equivocada al dar por sentado que el City se iba a clasificar para la Champions League cada temporada.

Al dirigente le preguntaron por la afirmación de Mourinho cuando dijo en 2018 que clasificar a Champions, quedando segundo tras el City, fue uno de sus mayores logros como entrenador, dada la disparidad entre ambos equipos. No le ha quedado otra que darle la razón al portugués: “Llegar a la Champions League la próxima temporada será un éxito increíble, solo por el hecho de estar allí, a pesar de los problemas que hemos tenido. Entiendo cuando José dijo eso. Por el club, por la próxima temporada, queremos jugar la Champions League”.

“Ya lo he dicho mil veces: la gente da por sentado que el City estará en la Champions League todas las temporadas. Sé lo difícil que es. Si no, todos los equipos importantes estarían en la Champions League todas las temporadas, pero no fue así. Somos los únicos que llevamos ahí, no sé cuántos años. A este tipo de cosas les doy mucha importancia, porque es la consistencia que siempre he buscado como entrenador”, ha añadido el de Santpedor.

La temporada del City

Reflexionando sobre la temporada del City, Guardiola ha señalado a las lesiones como el principal culpable: “Esta temporada ha sido muy rara, muy difícil. Primero, no teníamos los jugadores necesarios. Esa es la razón principal. Después, hay muchos otros factores, pero especialmente este. No puedes competir en todas las competiciones si no tienes a los jugadores. ¿El triplete? No podríamos ganar el triplete sin todos los jugadores. ¿El doblete? No podríamos ganar el Doblete sin los jugadores”.

Aun así, ha querido poner en valor el camino de los suyos en la FA Cup: “No fue posible hacerlo en la Premier League esta temporada y esta es la peor campaña de la Liga de Campeones que hemos hecho desde que estoy aquí. Pero mira la FA Cup: siete semifinales seguidas. La gente dice: ‘Sí, pero juegas contra equipos de la Championship y de la League One’. Quizás no ganemos la FA Cup, pero ya lo hemos logrado. En la Premier League, no lo hemos logrado; en la Champions League, tampoco. Pero en la FA Cup, sí lo hemos logrado”.
