La primera temporada de Lewis Hamilton vestido de rojo está siendo decepcionante a todos los niveles. Su estreno con Ferrari se ha convertido en una pesadilla recurrente. La única alegría para el heptacampeón mundial fue su triunfo en el Sprint disputado en China. De ahí que esté ubicado en la sexta plaza de la general de pilotos. Su cifra de puntos es paupérrima (109). Existe un dato que explica de forma sucinta la magnitud del naufragio del ’44’. El líder Oscar Piastri le aventaja en 175 unidades. Y aún restan 10 grandes premios por disputarse. La distancia entre el laureado competidor británico con respecto a los McLaren es sideral… Y no es corta precisamente si le comparamos con su vecino de garaje. Charles Leclerc es quinto en la clasificación, un peldaño por encima del de Stevenage, pero con 151 puntos en su hoja de servicios.
El caso es que a Lewis le están lloviendo los palos por todos los lados… Incluso él mismo ha confesado sentirse como un auténtico “inútil”. En este contexto de crítica exarcebada sólo faltaba que apareciera en escena Bernie Ecclestone. El exmandamás de la F1 es de los que tienen la lengua afilada, por lo que no puede sorprender a nadie que se haya cebado con Hamilton en una conversación con el Daily Mail.
“Lewis tiene mucho talento, lo tenía y probablemente lo sigue teniendo. Pero, como ocurre con muchas personalidades deportivas destacadas cuando alcanzan la cima, sólo hay un camino por recorrer, y no es una buena dirección. Es hacia abajo“, argumenta con saña el magnate.

Y, acto seguido, agrega: “Hamilton está cansado. Lleva haciendo lo mismo desde siempre. Necesita un reinicio total para hacer algo completamente diferente. Puede que él no lo piense, pero pronto se acostumbrará a hacer otras cosas lejos del automovilismo cuando se retire. Creo que debería haberlo hecho hace tiempo. Este chico no es un tramposo. Pero se estaría engañando a sí mismo si sigue adelante. Debería retirarse ahora“.
Ecclestone aconseja al ganador de 105 grandes premios que llegue a un acuerdo con la Scuderia para dejarlo ya. “Si yo fuera su representante, negociaría inmediatamente con Ferrari y diría: ‘Si tienen a alguien que sustituya a Lewis, se hará a un lado’. Si yo fuera Lewis, le diría a Ferrari que quiero que me paguen todo mi contrato, íntegro. Debería decir: ‘No está funcionando, así que puedo ceder si quieren, pero ese es el acuerdo’. Podría funcionar para ambas partes”, proclama el multimillonario de 94 años.
Y concluye: “Lewis no necesita seguir corriendo riesgos. Ha ganado siete títulos mundiales y eso es más que suficiente“, ha incidido.
