The future of Pete Alonso with the New York Mets has once again become a topic of conversation on and off the field, as although the first baseman signed a two-year contract with the team, his possible departure at the end of this season keeps both fans and his own teammates in suspense.
Recently in an interview with the New York Daily News, outfielder Tyrone Taylor left no doubt about what they think inside the locker room: “You have to sign that man,” he said bluntly. “The fans love him and so do we. He’s a great teammate, a great person and a great baseball player. He’s meant a lot to this team. They have to sign him.”

Since his debut in 2019, Pete Alonso has only worn the Mets uniform. At 30 years old, the man known as the “Polar Bear” is just two home runs away from becoming the franchise’s all-time home run leader.
His outstanding performance has been reflected in his connection with the fans, and his leadership in the team has made him an essential figure for the club and his teammates.

Peterson was candid about the importance of Polar Bear in the locker room, not only in terms of his sporting contribution, but also for his leadership:
“He’s one of the hearts of this organization. He’s a homegrown guy and has a significant impact on the team, both offensively and defensively. His desire to win and his commitment to his teammates makes him even more valuable.”
The loyalty of the fans also remains intact, recalling moments such as the decisive home run that Alonso hit in the wild card game against the Milwaukee Brewers last October, which will remain in the collective memory of New York fans.

So far this season, Alonso has been the most productive player in the Mets lineup, with a batting average of .264, he is one of the team’s leaders in that category, as well as being second in OPS .859, home runs 25 and RBIs 91.
The Mets are currently still in the hunt for first place in the National League East, just two and a half games behind the Phillies, an achievement in which Pete Alonso is largely responsible.
