Bill Belichick, widely regarded as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, has introduced a surprising new training method to the University of North Carolina football program, drawing inspiration from his connection to Jordon Hudson.
The 73-year-old, now in his first college coaching role after joining the Tar Heels in January, has incorporated yoga-based exercises into the team’s recovery and conditioning routines to aid rest and recovery.

The NFL veteran, who has won six Super Bowl titles, garnered attention this year after photos of the pair performing acrobatic exercises on a beach went viral with his 24-year-old girlfriend.
In one striking image, Hudson was seen lying horizontally on Belichick‘s outstretched legs, showcasing both strength and flexibility in a bid “to stay young.” He has now translated those principles into his approach with UNC players.
“Yoga is a recovery technique. It’s not really a training technique,” Belichick explained. “We use it more for recovery, and there are a lot of benefits to it.
“It’s a good way after a couple, three, four days of practices to give the body a chance to recover, stretch, get the blood flowing, and so forth.
“Some guys use some more than others depending on what they’re trying to accomplish.
“It’s a comprehensive program. It’s not just based on one thing, but the yoga sessions are a part right here.”
The former New England Patriots ace, who built a dynasty alongside Tom Brady, emphasized that yoga is just one component of a broader recovery program at the UNC Tar Heels.
The regimen also includes nutrition, hydration, sleep management, soft tissue treatments, foam rolling, and contrast tubs ahead of the 2025 season against TCU on September 1.
ACC coaches unsure of Belichick’s ability to succeed in college
Despite the excitement surrounding Belichick‘s debut, insiders suggest that many ACC coaches are skeptical about his ability to succeed at the collegiate level, despite the successes of former NFL peers such as Deion Sanders with the Colorado Buffaloes.
Bill‘s move to Chapel Hill is under intense scrutiny and according to insider Josh Pate on the “3&Out Podcast,” most ACC coaches believe the NFL legend will struggle in the college environment.
“Most coaches in the ACC think he’s going to fail,” Pate said. “Most coaches think he’ll fall flat on his face. It’s more of an insult for them to read all these headlines about how this guy and this team are going to come in and show college football something.
“The way they look at it, college football is going to teach Belichick way more lessons than the other way around.”
Critics point to Belichick‘s age and previous difficulty adapting to changes in the NFL as potential obstacles in the evolving landscape of college football, particularly amid the NIL era and its financial complexities.
While UNC’s schedule offers opportunities against lower-ranked teams, the overall talent depth of the roster remains a question mark and even Tom Brady suggested working with teenagers will be different to what his old boss is used to.
