Wenn die BVB-Bosse über die Kaderplanung sprechen, dauert es nicht lange, bis diese zwei Namen fallen. Man müsse ja immer beachten, so heißt es oft, dass der Klub vor einem Jahr mit Mats Hummels (36) und Marco Reus (36) zwei Säulen, zwei Anführer, zwei Aushängeschilder verloren habe. Und dass andere Spieler in eine solche Rolle erst einmal hineinwachsen müssen. Und klar ist: Über Hummels und Reus wird auch in den kommenden Jahren in Dortmund viel gesprochen werden. Denn: Beide Wege sollen zurück zum BVB führen.
Vor einem Jahr entschieden die Bosse, die Verträge der Fan-Lieblinge nicht noch einmal zu verlängern. Während Reus Klarheit haben wollte und seinen Abschied frühzeitig festzurrte, hoffte Hummels bis zum Ende auf eine Fortsetzung. Er macht keinen Hehl daraus, dass er gerne geblieben wäre. Doch die Verantwortlichen entschieden sich für einen Umbruch. Reus zog es daraufhin in die USA, Hummels nach Rom. Vor rund zwei Monaten erklärte er dann sein Karriereende.

Eine Unterschrift ist nur noch Formsache. Genau wie ein Engagement beim BVB. In den vergangenen Wochen fanden bereits Verhandlungen zwischen der Borussia und Reus statt. Das Ergebnis: Reus wird Markenbotschafter des Revier-Klubs. Die Aufgabe soll noch während seiner aktiven Karriere beginnen – als freier Mitarbeiter sozusagen. Nach dem Karriereende soll er dann einen offiziellen Vertrag unterschreiben.
Reus soll den Verein vor allem bei großen Events vertreten, etwa bei Auslosungen oder Sponsoring-Treffen. Vor allem in Asien ist Reus der mit Abstand bekannteste BVB-Akteur, diesen Markt soll er beleben. Ob Reus nach seiner Karriere zurück nach Dortmund zieht oder in Los Angeles bleibt, hält er sich noch offen. Obwohl er in der Stadt im Ruhrpott sehr stark verwurzelt ist, kann er sich durchaus vorstellen, in den USA sesshaft zu werden.

Mats Hummels: Für den Innenverteidiger, der am vergangenen Sonntag für den BVB beim Testspiel gegen Juventus (1:2) noch einmal auflaufen durfte, steht fest: Er möchte sich eine längere Auszeit nehmen. Wahrscheinlich über Jahre. Lediglich bei Prime Video hat er als TV-Experte unterschrieben. Dann allerdings besteht sein Wunsch darin, für die Borussia zu arbeiten. In welcher Rolle? Das ist noch offen. Hummels tauscht sich regelmäßig mit Klub-Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke (66) aus, hält ihn auf dem aktuellen Stand. Erst vor rund zwei Wochen telefonierten die beiden noch.
Der ehemalige Kapitän, der derzeit in München lebt, sagt zu SPORT BILD: „Ich habe Dortmund wirklich vermisst. Ich will in den nächsten Monaten immer mal vorbeischauen und mir auch Spiele ansehen. Es kann ja auch gut sein, dass es mich als TV-Experte nach Dortmund verschlägt, was für mich ein Traum wäre. Dortmund ist nicht nur als der BVB, sondern als gesamte Stadt tief verwurzelt in mir.“
