Caitlin Clark remains uncertain and Sophie Cunningham’s injury further complicates Indiana Fever’s WNBA season

Without a doubt, Indiana Fever’s season has become a constant puzzle for its management. From controversies involving DeWanna Bonner to Caitlin Clark’s physical issues, Kelly Krauskopf and Amber Cox have had to make urgent decisions almost every week. What once looked like a promising year is now marked by a challenge: keeping the team competitive despite the “curse” of injuries.

In just three weeks, the Fever lost practically their entire defensive zone. Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, and now Sophie Cunningham are ruled out for the remainder of the season. Although the free agent market offers alternatives, each addition has been a calculated risk. Odyssey Sims and Kyra Lambert (already released) were bets that, so far, haven’t been able to solidify.

Clark and Boston’s ritual hits different without her

Everyone is waiting for Caitlin Clark

Amid so much uncertainty, Caitlin Clark’s immediate future keeps fans on edge. The six-foot star point guard hasn’t been completely ruled out, and some analysts point to a possible return by late August. However, rumors surrounding her actual condition have sparked speculation: is it just a physical injury or also a necessary break from media pressure?

Sophie Cunningham, teammate and a trusted voice in the locker room, was clear in dismissing these theories. On her podcast Show Me Something, she reminded listeners that “not being able to play is the hardest part for a professional athlete.” For her, the speculation is more a reflection of Clark’s impact on the WNBA than a real issue.

Stephanie White’s stance on Clark

Coach Stephanie White spoke to the press to temper expectations, though she left more questions than answers. “Until she can get into practice, and until you see her in practice, it’s the same status quo,” she said. In other words, there’s no confirmed timeline for Clark’s return.

Meanwhile, Cunningham added another interesting point: Clark might be playing at another competitive level, but in the WNBA it’s not enough to “be good”-you need to be at 100%. That demand is why the coaching staff and medical team are prioritizing her full recovery before putting her back in action.

Indiana Fever needs Clark back

Caitlin Clark’s return would mean not only regaining talent but also hope for a franchise that has suffered more setbacks than joys this year. With Cunningham out and the rotation in the red, Indiana Fever needs good news to keep its aspirations alive.

For now, everything indicates the team will continue to bet on patience. The idea is clear: when Clark returns, she must be ready to lead a squad that, despite the blows, continues to fight to stay standing in the 2025 WNBA.

Dynasty superflex rookie rankings: Ashton Jeanty holds the No. 1 spot but other rookies are rising fast

In the redraft world, there has been plenty of talk about the rise of the rookies. While Ashton Jeanty has been a top 24 player since the moment he was drafted, the gap is shrinking, even if he is still number one. Both TreVeyon Henderson and Omarion Hampton have taken advantage of their opportunities in the preseason, with Henderson doing more in the actual games and Hampton benefiting from Najee Harris' ongoing absence from team work. RJ Harvey is another rookie riser, because if preseason usage means anything at all, he looks like the lead back in Denver Week 1.Amongst the wide receivers, there have really been three big risers: Travis Hunter, Tetairoa McMillan, and Emeka Egbuka. For the first two, the redraft rise doesn't show up in the rookie rankings because Henderson and Hampton have risen faster. For Egbuka, […]

College football betting: Most overvalued and undervalued teams for Week 0 and Week 1 include Ohio State

Every Thursday during the college football season, I'll share who I think are the most undervalued and overvalued teams across that week's slate.  A great example of a "spot" play is Vanderbilt's upset over Alabama last season. The Commodores were returning home after two straight road losses, while Alabama was coming off an emotional win over No. 2 Georgia. Vanderbilt won the game outright as a 23-point underdog. We will see more spots like that once the season gets going, and I'll debut the article next Thursday for Week 1. With only five games on the slate this Saturday, I'll take a different approach and look at some teams that are undervalued and overvalued based on the Week 1 odds. UndervaluedOld Dominion Monarchs Old Dominion Monarchs is a team I like this season. I bet the Monarchs to win the Sun Belt Conference at +1000, and I […]

Predicting landing spots for five potential RB trade targets as Browns, Chiefs, Saints reportedly explore help

Running backs may not be the most premium of NFL positions, but that doesn't mean they're not valuable. Weeks after the Buffalo Bills paid James Cook to stick around for the long haul under a lucrative new deal, a handful of teams are eyeing upgrades for their backfield, scouring the pre-cutdown trade block for available veterans.Among the teams in hot pursuit: the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints, according to The Athletic. The Browns have yet to sign rookie second-round draft pick Quinshon Judkins, the Chiefs have struggled to find steady competition behind Isiah Pacheco, and the Saints, despite retaining Pro Bowler Alvin Kamara atop the depth chart, are without a proven insurance policy for new coach Kellen Moore's offense.
