Češi i Japonci měli po čtyřech zápasech shodnou bilanci čtyř výher i skóre setů 12:2. Dal se tak v Ťiang-menu očekávat vyrovnaný souboj a skutečně to tak bylo. Úvodní dějství rozhodla až úplná koncovka, kdy se asijskému celku povedlo za stavu 23:23 uhrát dva míče v řadě.
První skutečný trhák předvedla česká jednadvacítka ve druhém setu, kdy dokázala tlačit servisem a zásluhou čtyřbodové šňůry odskočila do vedení 16:10. Náskok si pak už pohlídala. Důležitou třetí sadu rozehráli lépe Japonci, kteří byli výborní v poli, ale zlom přišel za stavu 16:20, kdy znovu při podání přišlo pět českých bodů v řadě.

Nakonec dokázala jednadvacítka odvrátit i japonský setbol a sama svůj druhý využila. Najednou byla na českém mládí znát větší sebedůvěra i odvaha útočit. Ve čtvrtém setu se od stavu 8:7 dařilo svěřencům trenéra Michala Nekoly trpělivě ztrátovat a při jednotlivých výměnách byli trpělivější, což rozhodlo i koncovku této části.
Po téměř dvou hodinách se povedlo proměnit hned první mečbol. Nejproduktivnějším hráčem byl i v tomto utkání univerzál Tomáš Brichta, jemuž ale skvěle sekundoval smečující kapitán Matěj Pastrňák. „Byl to znovu vynikající týmový výkon, nesmíme opomenout ani třináct úspěšných bloků,“ těšilo kouče.
Skvělé skupinové výsledky reprezentace do 21 let se teď ale smažou a podstatné bude, jak zvládne osmifinálový vstup do play off, zápas s Tureckem. Bez porážky ale základní částí šampionátu vedle českého výběru prošla už jen mužstva USA, Itálie a obhájci zlata Íránci.
