Can Crawford knock out Canelo? Golovkin’s trainer is blunt

On September 13 (Netflix), sports fans have an unmissable date with boxing. Canelo Alvarez and Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford face each other for super middleweight supremacy. These are two fighters who have dominated in their respective categories and now face each other in ‘Canelo territory’, that is, in the super middleweight division.

There is a lot of debate about who will win the fight. Although the Mexican is in his weight class, there are many professionals and fans who believe that the American’s skills will prevail. Both fighters are knockout artists: Canelo (63-2-2) has 39 KO victories and Crawford (41-0-0) has finished 31 of his fights early. Both are very good at setting traps for their opponents.

Canelo unleashes a beast fueled by fierce energy

There are opinions for all tastes. For example, former monarch Jeff Horn believes that either fighter can finish the fight: “Either Canelo knocks him out early, trying to catch Crawford because of the size difference, or Crawford outsmarts him, hurts him and tires him out using his skills, and potentially finishes him later in the fight like he did with me… He can certainly tire him out and stop him.”

The question is, can Crawford knock out Canelo, who has never kissed the canvas in his career? This question has been answered emphatically by Abel Sanchez, who trained Gennady Golovkin almost until the end of his career and was with him in the two fights against Alvarez. “That shouldn’t even be contemplated,” he told Fighthype. The Mexican trainer explains: “Gennady Golovkin, probably one of the hardest punchers of his era, couldn’t hurt him. Bivol, who is a good puncher in a heavier division, couldn’t hurt him. Didn’t Gamboa hurt Terence? We’re talking about a guy [Canelo] who’s been hit by the best and biggest, and he’s never been shaken to that point. Personally, I wouldn’t even consider that,” Sanchez said.

In boxing, anything can happen, but if Crawford has any chance of knocking him out, it would be by taking more risks than necessary. It was already seen against Madrimov in his last fight that a good punch can make him wobble. Canelo has a gift and that is that he fits like no one else. ‘Triple G’ is one of the most powerful boxers we remember and the Mexican took everything he threw.
