Nachdem in einem TV-Beitrag des ZDF von „dicker Luft“ zwischen Max Eberl und Uli Hoeneß die Rede war, stellte Bayerns Sportvorstand im Rahmen des DFB-Pokalspiels der Münchner in Wiesbaden klar: „Da gibt es keine dicke Luft. Es gibt unterschiedliche Gedanken. Der eine würde gerne etwas machen. Der andere sagt, wir wollen auf die Finanzen achten. Das ist völlig legitim, das ist Bayern München. Wir sind völlig d’accord“.

Zur anschließenden Diskussion in München erklärte Eberl nun: „Ich bin Angestellter vom FC Bayern. Ich habe den Auftrag bekommen, diese Transferperiode ein Stück weit aufs Geld zu schauen“. Dies habe er bestmöglich umzusetzen.
Über die Größe des aktuellen Bayern-Kaders sagte Eberl: „Wir haben den Kader bewusst kleiner gemacht. Wir wollten Platz schaffen für junge Spieler“ Trotzdem sei es so, dass der FC Bayern für die internationalen Spiele und die Dreifach-Belastung „in der Offensive schon noch jemand gut gebrauchen könnte“.
